Long time patient
I'm reading the negative comments re: Dr. Dawes, PhD, MD.It's very obvious you have no understand of psychiatry, the purpose. If you want a long term relationship to blather like an idiot, you go to a Psycologist. Psychiatrists are diagnostic, ONLY. They listen to you for the 1st time usually 30 minutes to see what is wrong. Visit after that, 15 minutes and HE IS LISTENING. That is why you are able to receive your medications. Increased or decreased depending upon your progress. I will agree with you on the NASTY LOCATION OWNED by Compass Behavioral Clinic. Not impressed. As far as the extra visitor in the room, you must be female. Compass, for some stupid reasons places a female in on each visit for the first 6 months or so. They tried that with me. I told her I am a male. No chance of anything happening here. You can leave. He was hesitant at first, RULES ARE RULES. But for me, RULES ARE MEANT TO BE BROKEN. No I am having some 2nd grade funky listen and tell the world.

No communication with family
I've never met this man, but he is my husband's doctor while in Compass Mental Health in Houma. What decent doctor doesn't communicate with a bipolar patient's family to see what this patient is doing at home? I would say a doctor who is in it for nothing more than money! My husband doesn't sleep at home! Everything is different from when he is in the hospital! He has massive panic attacks and goes into mania. Yet, Dr. Dawes is sending him home with no sleep medication or medication to bring him out of panic attacks. I would NEVER recommend any doctor who has no communication with a patient's family before discharging the patient! This is poor quality of care.

He needs to retire. His current location feels like the slum. The front desk people are incompetent. He seems tired and distracted.

I have been a patient of Dr. Dawes for years. He has always been professional, caring and kind. It doesn’t matter to me if he has moved a lot or if he has an assistant in the room. He has always been there for me when I have needed him. I will continue seeing him.

He does not listen to patients concerns, is dismissive and condescending. I don't know how he still has a license to practice, especially for psychiatric needs.

Very uncomfortable with a staff person in his office. Waiting room like a clinic; people in and out within 5 minutes. Many people, noise, odors. No thanks will not be back

I have been with dr Dawes for over 10 years. In that time he has moved at least 4 times. He disappeared for over 6 months last year with no explanation. Dana was the best thing he had going for him. She was able to keep his patients calm and feeling like everything was ok. When he came back, we could not see him without another person in the room with him. That created a VERY uncomfortable feeling. I felt like I could not say what I needed to say The new location is not a safe feeling place. I don’t like walking so far to get to the door or walking through people smoking at the front door. I miss the professional feel at the other locations. Dr Dawes is a great dr. I just do not know if I can keep going to a place that makes me feel like I am going to a low income psychiatric facility. Therapy groups going on in the parking lot... not what I am used to. I do not know what is going on, but this last year with Dr. Dawes has created MORE anxiety.

Sterile, clinical and uninspiring. He typed on a laptop during the appointment. Little to say or recommend. Threw a prescription at me and said to come back in 6 weeks. Stay away.

Dr. Dawes is a great doctor. – Aug 02, 2019

I began seeing Dr. David Dawes when my first psychiatrist Dr. McDonald retired. I actually look forward to going to see Dr. Dawes. His secretary Dana is so friendly and I look forward to seeing her also. Dr. Dawes has gone above and beyond when trying to find the right medication when one does not work. I have been seeing him for at least 8-10 years now. I have no wait time or if I do it may be 5 minutes. He is not even on my insurance plan but I refuse to switch to someone that is a PPO provider that is how much I trust my mental health care to Dr. Dawes. I convinced my daughter to see him also and she too is extremely satisfied with his care for her mental health. We both suffer with anxiety, panic attacks and depression.

Horrible on picking up signs of psychosis. Doesnt spend much time with patients doesnt see patients as frequent as he should. Doesnt hospitalize patients when needed, instead he sends them home for their families to deal with it
