It’s been 10 years since I had cataract surgery by Dr. David Chaffin of Nevada Eye Consultants. I am now 82 years old and my eye site is still close to 20/20. In consultation with my opthamologist Dr. Laura Patterson at Pritchett Eye Care I had chosen the monvision option (different focal lengths for left and right eyes) and the astigmatism extra cost lens option. I was able to test drive the monovision option for a week with soft contact lenses and I really liked it from the getgo. The surgery was trouble free and the results were spectacular. Proof is in the pudding. This was the best medical procedure of my life and I still don’t wear glasses.

Had cataract surgery on my left eye March of 2018 with Dr. Chaffin at Eye Surgery Center of Northern Nevada. Post surgery I was given an injection in my left cheek that began to bleed in recovery. Was discharged from recovery with an ice pack on the bleed site. Several hours later the bleed hemorrhaged causing O.C.S. and pressure on the optic nerve. Follow up with the operating surgeon and 14 other physicians including 3 Emergency Room visits were not help full. I remain permanently blind in the left eye. Note: Dr. Caffin apologized. There was no recovery

I should have read the reviews before having cataract surgery done by Dr. Chaffin. My initial office visit was more a sales pitch than a professional exam, leaving "this is a mill" impression. Foolishly, I went ahead and scheduled the surgeries. However, before the procedures were done , I was required to pay $2400.00 up front even though I am covered by Medicare and a supplemental insurance. The surgeries went well, but the extra cost is excessive. Cataract surgery is a simple procedure. No need to go to an overpriced assembly line operation .

I had cataract surgery on both eyes in 2014. Now five years later I can wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Chaffin. I had ample time to discuss lens options and make my decision. The staff are very professional and both surgeries were handled efficiently and were without any complications. At age 78 I no longer require corrective glasses either for reading or distant vision.

I had been to an optometrist who told me the best she could do was to write a script for 20/40 vision. I didn't like that alternative, I thought it should be 20/20 with new lenses. Called Dr. Chiffon's office to have my eyes re-evaluated and ask about cataract surgery. The main desk would not schedule an appointment. They wanted to do the surgery without an exam, not check my eyes to evaluate the cataracts or the accuracy of the optometrist's exam. They said they don't write scripts. Why?

We were in the office with a written primary care referral but were turned away because the front office staff said we had the “wrong form”. I am a medical professional with years of experience treating patients. This is bureaucratic arrogance beyond belief. I would never refer a patient to this office. There are many more reasonable ophthalmologists available in this community.

I agree with previous comments. You spend about 45 minutes with an assistant evaluating your eyesight. This is done very quickly. You get about 2 minutes with Dr. Chaffin briefly explaining 3 types of cataract lens option. No time for questions here. He is out of there. The place is run like a mill for sure.

Completely agree with two bad reviews left here. Dr Chaffin is the sales person! Even after I caught him in the hall and asked more questions, his attitude was "I know what I am doing, leave me alone." I made the biggest mistake of my life undergoing the cataract surgery with him. I now have the worse vision than prior to the surgery. Tried to discuss the options with his Optometrist, but he was rude, as if it was my fault that I decided to have the surgery with Dr Chaffin.

After very good experience 11 years ago, we were shocked at what has become a "mill". The initial exam was thorough but more time was spent with "selling" an upgrade to basic cataract surgery. The time spent with Dr. Chaffin was 3-4 minutes, no even enough time to formulate questions about what is a major decision. The majority of the time over 2 visits was spent with the "sales" personnel posing as technicians, and the finance department. We will not have surgery or return.

The doctors entire business seems extremely shady and completely aimed at maximized profits over the needs of the patient! They are salesmen who try to upgrade (and up-sell) the services to the patient. If you question the expensive services they recommend they repeat the same rehearsed sounding lines and then the nice demeanor changes quickly to being rude and defensive. The procedure was cancelled and we are finding an honest office that sees a patient and not a payday!
