First and Last appointment with Dr. Amos
Our family has used Forefront Dermatology for many years. We have been seen by a couple of the Doctors in the practice for routine yearly visits and treated for different skin issues. This was my first and last visit with Dr. Amos. Our preferred Doctor retired and the other two did not have available appointments for months. I accepted he was a hour late for my appointment, however the skin examination I received was extremely far less and quicker than I have experienced in the past. I tried to discuss a skin issue on my ankle and a recent hive type breakout that my PCP referred me to the dermatologist for. Dr. Amos seemed very rushed, uninterested in me as a patient, his comments were short and totally ridiculous. Normally, I would not write a review, but interesting 4 of my friends had similar experiences with Dr. Amos. Only 1 had a good experience.

I went in to Forefront Dermatology to see Dr. Amos because they were the only dermatologist within 50 miles of my home who listed on their website their specialty in the health of skin of African American people and the differences we present with. I went in about spots on my face that were of significant concern, and the doctor not only laughed when I mentioned the advertising about knowing about African American skin, but he also went on to say that he doesn't know much about it and has only had maybe 2 patients who were African American in his entire career there. He prescribed a medication for my face which he said may or may not work, he doesn't know how these things work on my skin tone. I did not appreciate his tone, or his humor at my need for health care. While I understand that he might not have significant personal experience, as a healthcare professional, I felt it was his duty to educate himself about all patients and skin types since skin is his profession.

If you want a doctor who is very friendly and knows his field, then make your appointment. He has been my doctor for more than 10 years. My last visit, Dr Amos saw a dime size freckle on my shoulder and cut it off and sent to lab. It turned out to be melanoma. Fortunately, it was found so early that there is zero chance of recurring. My next visit, I had the area around the biopsy spot further excised and that lab report came back negative.

×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Amos?
Dr. Amos was very arrogant and lacked any sort of compassion. I was nervous as it was my first time seeing a derm for acne, and he made me feel ashamed. I tried to open up and be personal and he rolled his eyes at me. It was the most uncomfortable doctor experience I have ever had. If you have any insecurities about your skin, I highly recommend choosing anyone else.

He was able to diagnose my issue right away. Seems very knowledgeable. However, my first impression of him was that he’s a bit arrogant. Made a few sexist remarks during my consultation which I didn’t particularly appreciate. But if you can get past that, he seems to be very competent.
