Great experiences
Thorough. Listened to my descriptions and was compassionate. Joked about getting old --right on.Gave pros and cons. Opened risks of my options and recommended PT along with cortisone. Unfortunately the drug caused Thrush. Next is MRI

Surgery for ACL & Meniscus tear, 2 fractures Knee
I think Dr. Phelan is a good doctor. I definitely do not agree with his diagnosis to send me back to physical therapy. I already did physical therapy for my knee about 3 weeks ago & I actually went backwards, and this made things worse. 'My left knee is constantly coming out of socket about at least 10-15 times per day & is very painful. I was only sent to Dr. Phelan because the Doctor who was going to do my knee does not do knee surgery in a hospital setting & at the Bone and Joint Center. I would have to wait until around July 2024 & I did not want to because I have fallen about 3-4 times pretty bad & my knee keeps coming out of socket at least 10-15 times. I don't agree with him & will be going back to my original plan. I am not really necessarily saying anything bad about him, though I thought he could have had a warmer demeanor.

Not invested in his patients.
He cross-threaded a screw in a plate while repairing a bone fracture in my leg, so it had to be removed by another surgeon by sawing off the screw. He ran out of an exam room before I had finished with my questions, saying he “had already spent more time with me than he usually does with his patients.” The last time I was examined by him, I was not given the dignity of an exam room. Instead, I was placed in a shallow linen alcove in a busy hallway. I was placed on a folding chair with my fractured leg out in the narrow hallway, near a corner where people were flying by. He examined my broken leg by standing behind me and looking over my shoulder. That was the day I knew for certain he could never be trusted.

He lies about treatments, tell you one thing next month tell you he never said it. Makes excuses why your not healing, tell you he is the best orthro in NYS but will refer you to someone outside of NYS. Test results from specialist say one thing he will tell you no I dont see that. Don't worry it's all good. DON'T GO TO HIM!! You will be sorry

Abrupt type responses to questions. Didn't feel he was very concerned as a professional.

Only one visit and I was diagnosed with early stage arthritis of the hip joint, causing possible soft tissue damage, inflammation and discomfort. One my 2nd visit, despite explaining that my joint pain only recently started after an extensive amount of exersion due to a recent move, Dr. Phelan showed little interest in treatment alternatives other than "...go see a physical therapist and...come back and see me when you're ready for a hip replacement". I need to find better.
