Very pleased with Dr. Kaplan’s care for my elderly father. I wish all Kaiser doctors showed a similar level of care. Only complaint is the Kaiser KP.org system and how difficult it can be to communicate directly with his office. But that isn’t his fault.

Had several issues with him - not listening to my concerns or taking my wishes into account, unwilling to go the extra mile to provide quality care and instead relies on others to do his work, and lastly, failing to do research on medications which led to bad choices in prescribing medications. While not Dr. Kaplan's fault, the appointment process is horrible at KP. Endless "informational" messages and telephone prompts. Online appointment scheduling is challenging as well. Nurses and staff at the Cumberland location can be rude and difficult to deal with.

Dr. Kaplan is extraordinarily bright and clever, extremely thorough, generous and gracious with his time on the patients behalf, well versed in all possible and probable conditions related to symptoms exhibited by the patient, thoughtful, caring, thoroughly likeable, genuine with a terrific sense of wit and humor.

His knowledge is quite limited in certain areas; He chooses to allow patient to struggle with pain rather than to prescribe a class III medication due to fear of any perceived impropriety; Very distant on a one to one basis. All attention and energy is directed towards a key board; Lacks listening skills The staff, or gate keepers are short and rude.
