Dr. Chang will not do surgery on someone or give someone medical weight loss medication if they aren’t willing to put in the work to modify their behaviors. He told me days before surgery that if I went on a bender the weekend before surgery where I gained 10 pounds, he would not do surgery on me! That was tough but he wanted me to understand it’s a commitment from me to use the surgery as a tool to a healthy lifestyle, not the main answer. I’m a strong minded woman and we have butt heads at times, but ultimately I know he’s very passionate about his patient’s success. I appreciate that he actually cares beyond taking my money for surgery then saying “Good luck!” He wants to follow up for as long as it takes to make sure people are remaining successful for the rest of their lives, not just the first year after. People have a hard time accepting their role in their weight gain and he does not let you make excuses. He wants you to take responsibility to take control of your life.

Baratric Sleeve Surgery
My son is Autistic and was told he could not and would not succeed at having weight loss surgery. As the insurance believed he lacked the intelligence and ability to self manage his weight and eating lifestyle. Dr. Chang was straight forward and honest with my son he did not coddle him. Instead he directed and guided him and praised him when he made progress and encouraged him to press forward to a healthier lifestyle. One year later and 4 months post op my son has successfully lost 120 pounds. He continues to weight lift one hour a day four times a week and prepares his own meals. He is happy and healthy. Thanks to Dr. Chang and Rachel’s support he was able to break the obstacles placed before him. We are forever grateful.

He really cares about his patients
Dr. Chang and his staff are hard-working people. I always get a quick response, same day, from someone in the office. He utilizes telehealth visits since many of his patients are in Corpus. He is wiling to expend himself on his patients' behalf.

Professional and Assertive
Dr Chang cares about his patient's success. This is evident in your office visit. He goes through a few questions then provides feedback, and finally allows time to ask questions. His persistence and professionalism helps his patients succeed in their weight loss journey (my experience). He also performs a variety of other surgical and non-surgical procedures. He is a tremendous asset to have in the Victoria and Corpus areas.

Dr. Chang has operated on my twice. Once for the lapband, about 15 years ago, and for a revision to bypass about 1 year ago. Put it this way, I live in Houston, and elected him to be my surgeon amd I chose him twice. Hes a straight shooter. Cares about his clients. Expect follow ups after your surgery.

Dr Chang is an excellent doctor, I've lost almost 100 lbs in the last 7 months. He is also good because you can tell that he is very passionate about what he does and he truly cares about his patients. He is not afraid to be frank with you if you are not doing something right. Patients considering bariatric surgery must realize that this surgery is mainly a lifestyle change. You must eat properly, you must exercise. The surgery is just a tool that helps you with portion control. Never had a "bad" visit with him because I made the decision before I went to him for the first time that everything I had tried in my life up to that point had failed and I was committed to making a permanent lifestyle change. Because of this, Dr. Chang has never had to be frank with me or really have anything other than good things to say to me.

Outstanding Dr. and staff. I have read all of the reviews and notice that all of the bad reviews are by anonymous that don't stand behind their comments. Most of the comments are just whines. This is a process that takes real dedication and change to get the desired results, if you are not prepared to commit to that then this is not the thing for you. Dr. Chang is a straight up no nonsense person that is going to tell you like it is. He is completely committed to help with your health than your feelings. I am not saying that he doesn't care about your feelings he does, but he is not going to sway from his conviction to help guide you to a more healthy and productive life just because it might upset you a little. I do not always agree with what he says, and sometimes leave my visits somewhat emotional, but after digesting what he said, it usually make more sense that I originally thought. I know I made the right choice with DR. Chang.

I don't recommend Dr. Craig G. Chang, please save yourself the disrespect and humiliation by the staff, and threats by associated lab's to force you to give them money or they will threaten you by using Dr. Craig G. Chang as a tool of authority. These Victoria Tx. doctors don't care about any of their patients or their quality of health service, they just want MONEY, Dr. Craig G Chang's office staff treat their patients like they are not even worthy to be in their doctor's office, so why bother giving them money?

Do yourself a favor and find another Surgeon. This office doesn’t have respect for patients. I was concerned when they required a 25 dollar fee to schedule a first appointment. They asked me to get there 15 minutes before the appointment, even though they send the new patient paperwork electronically and ask for it to be brought to the appointment. After 50 minutes waiting to be seen in a room, and more than an hour after my appointment time, I decided that there was no way I would let this doctor operate on me and left. It is shameful how this office mistreated me. Don’t fall in the same trap.

Money driven, loves to push the number of time the insurance will pay for a visit. In the same amount of time he critiqued my soda drinking habits, I went to another surgeon had a sleep study, psych study and surgery done without the multiple visits to listen him complain I needed to stop drinking soda and start swimming before he would do my surgery. If the presurgery visits were included in the cost of my bariatric surgery, it may have only taken a month for him to do it.
