Great Surgeon
I thank the Lord for Dr. Dean. I was in SEVERE PAIN with no relief, when I woke up from my surgery I was so relieved. Dr. Dean is a no nonsense Doctor that has also operated on my Son’s neck and two other friends of mine all well pleased. I give him my highest recommendation.

Exactly , like all the other 1 star reviews .
Like previous 1 star reviews . I was referred to dr dean , because I had back issues . He was rude , just kept saying I am a spine surgeon why are you here ! Why do you think ? To get my back fixed . He said he could not help . No bedside manner at all . He acted like we were wasting his time .

A doctor’s doctor
I am a physician, and a disc fragment was pinching a nerve in my back, giving me terrible continuous leg pain (sciatica). Dr. Dean removed the stray piece in a fifteen-minute operation, and afterwards I was pain-free. He was always kind, attentive, careful, and supportive, and at all times I felt completely confident in his competence, integrity and professionalism.

Dr Dean left his previous practice 8 weeks after he performed my 2-level cervical fusion. I did not know that he was leaving until 2 wks after. I might have thought differently about the surgery had I know he was leaving so close after surgery. Despite the fact that I have had con’d & escalated numbness & pain, he brushed me off at my 4 wk follow up, blaming my symptoms on my elbow. I have heard nothing from him or his former practice. I have consulted with 3 add’l doctors & all are in agreement that I need a more extensive neck surgery. I should note that prior to meeting me in the pre-op room, Dr Dean had not done any physical or neuro checks - just read an MRI. Seems like a nice guy but would never allow him to operate on me again.

Dr. Dean preformed several procedures on my spine and my neck is pain free. My lumbar area isn't pain free but it's definitely better then it was, it's not pain now. I've referred several ppl to him, thats how much I believe and trust him. Very sad to hear he's leaving the practice and I have to find another surgeon.

Dr Dean is a gem. He is very caring and honest. He will tell you how much pain to expect and he will work with you to keep your pain levels as low as possible. He is very encouraging with diagnosis' and treatment. He did 2 surgeries for me, three months apart. Both were very successful.

Dr. Dean performed spinal fusion surgery on my back and I was extremely pleased with the outcome. He was always friendly and considerate during my hospital stay and visits after the surgery. I feel that my case was somewhat complicated as I have scoliosis and the surgery was better than I hoped for. I think it is extremely important for patients to realize that after the surgery they need to commit to taking responsibility for performing exercises, PT and walking immediately after the procedure. Although it is difficult you need to remain diligent on a daily basis in order for you to get back to your regular activities. I would highly recommend him and his staff if you are ever in need of an exceptional orthopedic spine physician.

I had a two level cervical disc replacement performed by Dr. Dean in May of last year (2018). I have nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Dean and the entire staff of the Maryland Spine Center. My experience with the entire team has been excellent. I struggled with radiculopathy (nerve pain, weakness, numbness and tingling) in both arms and hands for several months leading up to my surgery. I am very physically active and my neck was really starting to impact my life in a significa

I have read the reviews other patients have submitted with disbelief. From the front desk staff to Dr. Dean I have never met less caring professionals in my life. I had a L4/L5 fusion and I have been in constant pain since surgery. Dr. Dean and his staff just wanted me to go away. No follow up from him or his staff. He has left me in a sad state of affairs and never once followed up to see how physical therapy is going or how I am feeling. Would not recommend him or the Maryland Spine Center.

I had micro surgery on my L5/S1 in August 2016. The procedure went fine but my recovery was complicated by a full hip replacement I had in January of 2016. Dr Dean's and staff were great from beginning to end. We tried what we could to avoid surgery but once it was clearly necessary, it was as good an experience as it could be. From scheduling through follow-up PT, both the medical and the office staff were awesome.

Dr. Dean has excellent communication skills and spends the time and focus to understand your goals and concerns. I have never felt like I was being processed and rushed as just another "whiny patient". The office staff is so helpful and prompt in dealing with employment and insurance requests for information. I was delighted that my cervical fusion surgery was so successful with the degree of pain before the surgery and the long duration of pain that I had been suffering. I got BETTER!

Referred to Dr. Dean by Dr. Ciotola for neck fusion. This was my 1st surgery with Dr. Dean, but my 5th neck surgery. Dr. Dean & Dr. Ciotola were very Confident that he could get me feeling better. He was extremely Caring & understood my excruciating pain. The Entire Spine team, from reception, PA's, Nurses & Coordinators were All Amazing!

Dr. Dean is by far the best surgeon, there is out there when it comes to bedside manner as well as answering and explaining any questions that you have. I had lumbar surgery (L3). When I woke up in recovery and was asked to get up and walk. I could walk without any pain. The pain was so excruciating before the surgery, I thought nothing would make it better. I would recommend Dr. Dean, without hesitation.
