Bad experience
Dr. Van Pelt did back surgery on me and the minute I got up to leave I had no feeling in my right foot and leg. I first thought this would get better in time, part of the healing process boy was I wrong. After an MRI to find out what the problem was I received a phone call from Dr. Van Pelt’s office just to say he seen no reason in the MRI to explain the numbness or the pain. To continue to do the home exercises and hopefully it would get better eventually. No follow-up, no referral no nothing!! So here I am on a cane, can't work, can't drive. I'm worse now than before and he gives 0 cares! Take it from me don't let him touch you!!!

Great surgeon
Dr. Christopher Van Pelt, MD did a decompression laminectomy and a few years later a lumbar fusion. He always listened and explained thing well. Through the many months of Physical Therapy I have had more than on PT tell me, they see the same failed back surgeries from the same surgeons and the same successful surgeries come from the same surgeons, in short your surgeons competency plays a major role in the success of your back surgery.

Great result
He took a lot of time, using the mri images to explain what was wrong and how he would fix it. He seemed confident , so I was confident. Surgery results were amazing! No pain, weakness, in legs after surgery Hand and arm 95% better right away.

He lacks bedside manner for sure
Dr. Van Pelt operated on my neck and surgical screws and a rod and did fusion. I had headaches terrible headaches after surgery that continued after normal recovery time. On one of the visits going in, as always he took an x-ray. He threw the paper down and said look at how good that is. Your pain can’t be anything I did. I couldn’t believe he said that. I am now three years after surgery and I can hardly function. My MRI shows bulging discs I read about a weight bearing MRI where you stand up and it shows more realistically what your spine looks like. He refused to order one and said there isn’t anything he can do. My response to him was I always understood that a doctor should try to figure out why someone could be in so much pain. I also told him the MRI wouldn’t cost him anything. I won’t go back. The headaches and the pain in my neck hurts so bad I can’t function and do normaI things for any length of time. I’ve never met a doctors I wouldn’t try to help me

All Business About Your Spine!
Dr. Van Pelt is not a Psychologist or Social Worker, but if you want your spine repaired he just might be your guy. He’s done surgery on me twice, once on my neck and later on my lower back!
