Dr. Christopher Komanski, MD

After reading the reviews here, maybe Dr. Christopher Komanski was a great doctor when he first started. However, it's clear that his passion for helping people and performing surgeries is no longer there. I would not recommend him for your surgery. He is a man of a few words and doesn’t offer much information about your eye issues or ask how you are doing. I had to ask all the questions because he wasn’t very thorough. I didn’t even know when our visit was over, he just walked out of the room without saying goodbye or thanking me. I had to ask one of the receptionists if we were finished with the appointment. Overall, he did not make me feel comfortable.

Great education by the very best of schools but has a very bad “bedside manner.” Dr. Komanski rushed through the appointment. The office overbooked appointments. It was said by their own staff they were overbooked for the day. I’m sure insurance was billed over an hour and he spent 10 minutes in the room with patient. Dr. Komanski is rude. Patient stated a concern and his response was rudely put by saying “that has nothing to do with your problem.” The patient felt put down and not heard. He recommended a series of eye injections but did not explain anything other than “you’ll go blind if not.” When questioned more by the patients healthcare POA he acted bothered by questions because he was already one foot out of the door. On the day of the patients scheduled eye injection appointment he came in, stated the patients name, and just did the procedure without explaining anything of what he was doing to the patient. He just did the entire procedure and walked out. The first thing any doctor must do is EXPLAIN what they are doing so the patient understands and is informed. Anyone in any setting of healthcare is taught that; informed consent is imperative and ethical. Communication is everything. It’s very disappointing that elderly people are often ignored and are one of the most vulnerable groups of people. Do better. You’re patients deserve more! After all, you’re making a great living off the backs of you’re patients. Always remember your ethical oath. It matters!

I had the left eye retina surgery done at wake forest the end of May. Today , August 26, I went the Dr Komanski for the 4th check after surgery, the first three was done at the wake forest. He came in checked my right eye and said the hole was not closed, ‘really, not Dr Greven said’ then realized he looked wrong eye. I told him thesurgery is the left eye. Actually he was one referred me to Dr Greven at the wake forest, I thought he would know which eye had the surgery. He looked the graphic and said , ‘the hole was closed well, and come back six months later, if you have any problems, call us, then rushed out without looking at my left eye. He might spent two or three minutes with me. I complained to the manager, ‘ why I come here today, my eyes were dilated, but he didn’t care to take a look, I had to wait at least two hours before driving home which is over forty minutes away. I am lucky had surgery done at the wake forest, if the surgery performed on wrong eye, what am going to do?

I was referred to Asheville Eye Associates from my doctor in Florida. The retina in my right eye detached during my move to North Carolina. My surgeon in Florida referred me to Dr.Komanski and I am so glad she did. He is very confident and capable. He and his staff made me feel at ease. So pleased with the whole experience. Dr.Komanski is a fantastic surgeon.

Last year I had a torn retina out of the blue. I had never had any serious eye problems ever before and was very worried about it. He is very knowledgeable, thorough and professional. He explained everything and answered all of my questions. My surgery was not fun at all, but it went very well. I followed his instructions to a tee. My surgery was a success. I highly recommended him.

I have referred a lot of people to Dr. Komanksi, one lady had given up and I insisted she come see him. She told me it changed her life.
