Dr. Charu Sharma, MD

Dr. Sharma is wholeheartedlly recommended by me. She is very knowledgeable in her field. She is compassionate towards the patients and no matter when your appointment is, she is always willing to sit down and explain something. It is a team effort in the plan of treatment. I have complete confidence in her medical expertise. She has my gratitude and thanks for the result. Her bedside manner is warm and friendly. She treats her patients like family. If one has cancer, it will take a village to treat that cancer and this is the village you want!

I would definitely recommend Dr. Sharma to family & friends. In fact I have already told them how professional and caring she is. After I had been getting the radiation for a couple of weeks, it became apparent to me that this was going to be rough being that the cancer was on my voicebox and the radiation beamed right at the front of my neck. She had told me my throat would get sore and of course my neck would get red. But I began to have considerable coughing spells. She Right away she ordered what is called Magic Mouthwash and what wonderful stuff it is. She understood so well everything I was going thru and when my neck became sore and very red, she also ordered some wonderful cream which helped so much. I couldn't have asked for a better caretaker in those 28 days.

Dr. Sharma and her staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Dr. Sharma explained my treatments in a clear and concise manner. If I had questions she answered them to my satisfaction. She is very caring and compassionate. She always asked if I needed anything, or provided recommendations on products to use on my skin so I was able to tolerate the radiation with only minor skin irritation. I could not have asked for better results.

I just finished my Radiation treatments and Dr. Sharma and her team was very professional and courteous with every aspect of my treatments. I saw that the entire team was dedicated to their patients and their wellbeing and comfort during the process.

Dr Sharma was so kind, understanding and compassionate. She would always come in sit down and ask how I am and did I have any issues or questions. I never felt like she was in hurry to end our appointment.

Dr. Sharma was very thorough during our initial consult. She explained my options and then why she was recommending the treatment she chose. I felt that I was treated with respect when it came to choosing my own plan after being presented with the information. On subsequent visits, I found her to be knowledgeable , compassionate, and willing to answer any and all questions. I would be happy to recommend her to anyone seeking an oncologist.

I'm a medical oncologist who refers exclusively to Dr Sharma. My patients have nothing but good things to say about Dr Sharma. She listens well. Explains things well. Is very thorough. She reviews all the radiological data personally w my patients. She attends our "tumor Board" regularly and has up to date information on the newest radiation therapy treatments. She communicates well w me as the referring physician, to keep me personally updated. My patients are well taken care of. It is for these reasons that I refer my patients to her.

I found Dr. Sharma to be very knowledgeable; she thoroughly explained the treatment I was to receive and any possible side effects. She has a very quiet pleasant personality and was ready to answer my concerns and questions. I was very comfortable with the treatment from Dr. Sharma and her colleagues .

Dr. Sharma, treated me for stage four, viral cancer at the base of the tongue. During my first visit with her, she was very thorough and professional with the explanation of the treatment she planned. She instilled a great deal of confidence in me and felt there would be a very positive outcome. All during the 32 treatments, she discussed and reviewed the status of the radiation treatment each week and gave me a great deal of support! These were the darkest of times in my life. I cannot thank her and her excellent staff for their professional courtesy they extended me during my treatment. I would highly recommend her to any patient needing cancer treatment! It has been four years since my initial visit and I am cancer free today!

My experience with Dr. Sharma was very positive one. She explained my treatment plan throughly and communicated with my team of doctors. Dr. Sharma was always there when I needed her and saw me every week and more if I needed it. She is a very kind and caring person and is a great asset to the UPMC community.

Dr Sharma and her staff helped me get thru a very scary time. On my first visit Dr Sharma explained what my treatment was going to be and then I would meet with her every Monday. She would answer all my questions and concerns. I have to continue my treatment at a different hospital, and Dr Sharma called the other doctor herself to get my treatment started there. It is very scary when you hear that you have cancer, you have no idea what is ahead of you but Dr Sharma and her staff treated me with such kindness that it made it easier to go thru this.

Dr. Sharma treated me warmly from beginning of treatments which consisted of a total of 48. She called my home to inquire and advise. Appointments were always on time. Any questions were answered clearly. When treatment became difficult and uncomfortable she insisted on giving me a break and checked regularly during the break as to how I was feeling. Her kind and personal attention made my ordeal much more bearable. I would recommend her to anyone facing cancer treatment.

Her way of explaining the process was to ask if I had any questions. When I asked about the process, she recommended I go home and watch a video. When treatment got rough and I went through 10 days of the worse pain in my life, she refused to consider any pain meds for me besides opioids which did not make a dent in the pain. She became angry when I refused and asked for lidocaine. Luckily my surgeon intervened and prescribed it and I was better within days. She has no compassion.

Very uninformative, lacks compassion, has very poor communication with other doctors, and patients. Was very offended when we requested a second opinion and threw paperwork across counter. All other staff was great, with the exception of Dr. Sharma.
