Dr. Charles Zelen, DPM

I am a disabled vet and I broke my ankle and tore the perineal tendon as well as 3 ligaments while I was in the army that led to me being medically discharged. I was referred to Dr.Zelen by my VA podiatrist and I am super grateful. Had the attachment and correction surgery in 2023 and had total ankle replacement in 2024. I trust him with my life. Mrs. Debbie is amazing and is the sweetest secretary I have ever met. This office treats you like family and you can tell by the level of care you receive. He has a reputation as one of the best in the state and definitely the region and I can back that 100%

It was a tough year but after dr.zelens help. I'm back up and walking and making progress to being back to normal. Dr.zelens practice is filled with skilled nurses and doctors with smiling faces that want to help. Thank you again dr.zelen for all the work you did so I could keep my foot.

Dr. Zelen is always thorough with every exam. He is a doctor that asks you what you are feeling and going on with your foot & ankle "AND REALLY LISTENS TO YOU". Doctors I had before Dr. Zelen would straight out tell me it was impossible and I didn't know what I was talking about if I described something that seemed strange but then have no problem operating on me which would make it worse, leaving me with more problems than I had before going to them. Dr. Zelen, he will figure out what the problem is. He fixes the problem and is always kind and considerate. I have to drive almost 3 hours 1 way for my doctor visits and I have no problem with it because I am so confident in Dr. Zelen. I wouldn't trust another doctor with my foot & ankle. I wish he was a doctor that could do it all so I could stop seeing the other doctors that I wouldn't even take my dog to.

Been 7 years since he saved my leg. My wife and I are very grateful! Highly recommend him!

I am a repeat patient. I began having pain in my left Achilles tendon several months ago and finally decided it was time to go to the doctor. The obvious choice was to go back to Dr. Zelen. In March 2017 he did surgery on my right Achilles tendon and I had a fantastic outcome. Dr. Zelen knows what he is doing when it comes to feet and ankles. I have already recommended him to two of my friends and they have had great outcomes as well with their problems. He is a very popular doctor and sometimes you have to wait to be seen, but believe me when I say it is worth the time. I could go to a podiatrist that is closer to my home, but it is well worth the 50 minute drive to be seen by Dr. Zelen. You won't be disappointed if you choose Dr. Zelen.

My husband has been seeing Dr. Zelen for a couple of years now. After being told his foot was fine by a Doctor in West Virginia, the only saving grace from the injury has been Dr. Zelen. Dr. Zelen looked at the images and instantly corrected my husband's issues with his ankle. We most certainly would never trust the Doctors in West Virginia to do such an intense surgery that this truly amazing Doctor has done. In addition to helping him with the injury, this was a work place injury. Dr. Zelen and his staff was amazing when billing and working with workers comp. All around a great group and amazing to work with. Thanks Dr. Zelen and Your staff for helping my husband in so many ways. 5 stars all the way!

I have had 2 shredded Achilles operations by Dr Zelen. He is the most kindest and gentle doctor I've ever had to perform procedures on me. He's very informative and explains to the utmost of understanding. The staff is very kind and helpful and the receptionists are helpful with appointments when having to travel a distance to get there. His office is busy but that tells you how good he is and he is definitely worth the drive and the wait.

Dr. Zelen fixed my Charcot diseased foot when other podiatrists wanted to amputate. His bedside manner is excellent. He explains things in a way that is easily understood. I travel 2 hours to see him as do many of his patients, some even farther. Office staff is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Zelen.

Dr. Zelen fixed my foot after a botched surgery done by a Carilion doctor . I would highly recommend. His office is very busy but its worth the wait. I did a lot of research and could not be happier with my decision. I have now sent my mother to him and she is pleased as well

The appoinment was for my mother. Got there early no air conditioning. The two receptionists were telling one of the doctor's about a patient that had called about their bill. The receptionist's were rudely talking about this woman with the doc present and one of them said, "If I were you I would have told that lady to shut up!" Horrendous! The waiting room chairs were a lawsuit waiting to happen. Wobbly! Held together by tape probably. Never again.

Dr. Zelen operated on both feet, 3 sites. Post op appt the table i was placed on pitched forward throwing me to the floor with table landing on my back. TWICE!. 9 Months later I am still in extreme back pain having torn cartilage in my spine. Never had back pain before now 9 months later I still have back pain 24 hours a day. Seen back specialist, Had expensive MRI, Expensive X-ray guided spine injection and no relief from the pain.

M y husband was sent to Dr. Zelen to salvage a foot and ankle almost destroyed by Charcot disease. He did an awesome job but told us he put it back together but it was up to God and Jerry to heal it. That is true. He put together a foot and ankle that most would have amputated. That is still a possibility but so far so good. The entire office staff including Debbie has been very nice to us and extremely helpful. Dr. Zelen is a busy man and some perceive that as non-caring. So untrue.

Awful experience.. he let one of his students do my surgery and my foot is still messed up and I am in constant pain and walk with a limp. The office staff is rude, especially the manager, Debbie... a horrible person that has no business working with the public. Since my experience, I've found quite a few people that have also had a bad experience here and if anything, I hope I can prevent someone else from making the same mistake and go somewhere else.

I did a lot of research on Dr. Zelen, and he was the right choice, his office is very busy and there is often a wait but it was worth it, i had surgery done by another doctor and Dr. Z fixed me up, i would highly recommend

I met with Dr. Zelen. Was very pleased and wanted him to do the surgery needed on my foot.That was Thanksgiving 2015. His staff has never returned my phone calls. They were to set the date for the surgery. I had friends who were going to his associates mention I had been trying to reach them. Oh yes.We will call her. Then it never happened. I am still waiting. I loved Dr. Zelen but his staff is awful. Even his web page speaks to the fact that others are upset with his staff. He does not read h
