Wellspan ER referral - glad they did!
I was diagnosed with a rare form of glaucoma at Wellspan ER and had a 6:45am appt. with Dr. Bene. By the time I left her office we had a plan as to how to treat my disease. Dr. Bene has been treating my eyes since the beginning of January and I wont trust my eye care to anyone else. Her staff are top notch and caring individuals. If you have to wait it's because she affords her patients nothing but the best care they can get in a world of hurry up and push thru the number of patients in a day. Patience is a virtue. I'll go no where else.Brad Hill

What a Disaster
I sat in the waiting room till 2 pm after being asked to move my appt from 2 to 1 pm. Then it took two staff people and multiple tries to get images of my eyes. Eventually, they just threw up their hands and said a poor image was the best they could do. When Dr.Bene decided she didn’t know what had caused my vision problem, she referred me to a recently hired specialist she didn’t know who couldn’t see me for 3 months. At this point, I decided to find the new specialist on my own. It took me five days and 4 calls before Bene’s assistant returned my call to request forwarding the referral and comments. She now claims the paperwork has been faxed, but the specialist hasn’t received them. Another call to the assistant and I am told there is nothing else she could do and that she had had to take a late lunch the day before to fax the docs. No offer to try to fax again. Looks like I have to start over with a new ophthalmologist to get a referral causing a substantial delay In care!

Arrived 15 minutes early for my first appt and was informed the doctor couldn't see me for an hour, if then, with no other explanation. There was no one in the waiting room and the parking lot was empty. I left. They never called me to apologize or reschedule. Extremely unprofessional.

When I went to Dr. Bene for the first & only time - I waited 3 hours before I saw the doctor (sitting in the exam room w/out anyone explaining how much longer she would be or why there was such a delay). I truly should have walked out. When I did finally see her-she was rude, condescending, & instead of speaking to me & explaining her findings, she dictated everything in codes & medical terms to her assistant while I sat there. Absolutely worst "bed side manner" I've ever experienced.

She was knowledgeable and took plenty of time to answer my questions and make sure I understood my eye problem and my options. It's hard to find good doctors like her today. And, her staff were very nice. I'd recommend her without reservation.
