I had been seeing Dr. Russ for several years for my dermatology needs. This past summer, 2024, I went in for my annual check up. About a week and a half later, I receive a call from his nurse that said I needed to come back in for a visit due to a prescription that would be to be refilled. I let her know that I had just been in to see Dr. Russ. I have never asked for refills during my visits before, so not sure why this past year was different. Needless to say, I think this was ridiculous and was not happy to be charged for another office visit. I tried to resolve through the Dermatologists of South West Ohio, LLC. The response they received was from Dr. Russ stating 'There are times you need to follow up and you have to pay for an office visit'. Nothing was wrong or procedure done in the first visit, so there was not a reason for a follow up visit. I guess be sure to ask for refills during your visit. Don't get double billed like I did.

My experience was very poor.
Dr. Russ entered the room and I stood and offered my hand to shake and introduce myself. He was in too big of a hurry. It went downhill from there. I told him I had a terrible itch on my arms and ankles, and he asked me what it was. I said that I had hoped that he would examine my skin and HE would tell ME. I could go in and on, mirroring all of the complaints of the other reviewers, but suffice to say that I felt he was rushed, condescending and could not have cared even an iota less. He told me that I had dry skin and infected hair follicles…whose itch wakes me up at night. I suspect I’ll have to visit the dermatologist again over this issue, but it sure as heck won’t be this guy.

Much better providers elsewhere
Was in a hurry to do a quick exam and leave. Despite being a healthcare professional myself, he didn’t listen to me when I tried to explain what providers have done for me in the past and what has worked. Nurse read to him from my chart what the previous treatment was, yet he said he practices differently and will do the same for me despite my history and personal treatment. Glad to know he treats all of his patients the same way despite their clinical differences. I will never see him again and you should do the same. There are much better dermatologists in the area.

Don’t recommend this dermatologist to anyone
Dr Russ rushed through the appointment. He was very rude and rushed. Did not want to answer my questions and felt like he thought I was beneath him bc he is a doctor. Don’t go to him!! He seemed annoyed and very cold.

Straight to the point!
On time and straight to the point. Love it. I do not want to sit at a doctor's office for a half hour. He asked the important questions and we were on our way.

I had an issue and wanted a dermatologist to look at it. I made an appointment with Dr. Russ on two days notice (in Troy, Ohio). Dr. Russ came in, quickly identified my problem, told me about it, recommended some medication. As with some of the other reviews, my interaction with Dr. Russ was about two minutes. But at that point, he did what I wanted and answered all my questions. I feel if I had more questions he would have stayed and answered them. I got exactly what I wanted. It was no nonsense and I quickly got back to the rest of my day. I don't ever leave reviews, but this time I am just because of what some of the other people are saying. I had a good experience.

Lacks bedside manners
Unfortunately all of these negative reviews are spot on. Dr. Russ came bursting through the door and never once introduced himself. The first thing he said was “why are you here?” He was arrogant and seemed annoyed. He spent less than ten total seconds looking at my skin. I do understand that it’s an easy diagnosis so I’m willing to look past that. I will say I’ve seen many dermatologists due to my skin condition as I’ve moved multiple times and have to find a new dr. each time I move. This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. His poor nurse looked mortified and embarrassed of his behavior. So sad. I did get the prescriptions I needed but I would never recommend anyone see this man.

Not thorough, doesn't show much concern
I've seen Dr. Russ twice. The first time was ok. He spent a little more time with me then. The second time, he only had me take my shirt off and was done with the exam in less than two minutes. He asked if I used anything for my rosacea, and I said I did. He asked if I wanted to try something else. I said sure. He sent it to a pharmacy in Columbus because it is typically not covered by insurance. I agreed, and the pharmacy called and said my insurance didn't cover it, ad to ask for a different prescription. When I did, Dr. Russ's office said they should fill it at a discount for me. I said I was just going to go back to using my current medication. A few weeks later, the special pharmacy called and said it would be $60 for the medicine. I declined. It just seemed like no one knew what was going on, so I will be seeking another dermatologist in the future.

Would not recommend. Literally spent 3 minutes examining me. Did not address my concern, until I asked him further questions about it. Did not introduce himself, when entering room. Somewhat abrupt.

Two reasons I will not be returning to Dr. Russ. He spent less than 3 minutes in the room checking five spots that I wanted checked and quickly prescribed a cream to be used for a rash. Secondly, I have made three calls to the office trying to get them to contact my insurance for authorization. I also asked the office manager to call me to discuss the issue and she did not call me. Terrible patient service. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

I was happy to be offered an appointment the next morning - impressive for a specialist. I was told to arrive 15 minutes prior to the appointment for paperwork. When I arrived, there were several individuals in the waiting room. I waited 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time before being called back. During that time, several patients saw other providers with some gone as little as 5-7 minutes. A few even came back to the waiting room after their appointment to finish the history/medication paperwork. I was taken to an exam room 30 minutes after my scheduled time, and was seen almost immediately by Dr. Russ. Dr. Russ was very short in conversation and diagnosed within the first 2 minutes, stated a plan and executed it. He did not fully discuss history or concerns, and additionally marked these wrong on the visit notes. No paperwork or instructions were provided for after-care. The procedure he performed did not fully solve my issue, I will be following up with another practice.

Our regular dermatologist didn't have an appointment time we needed so we seen Dr. Russ. Dr. Russ was very arrogant and approached my questions like I was stupid with no common sense. When I asked questions he seemed irritated. I was not impressed by this doctor and will not see him again.

I agree with most of the above reviews. Dr.Russ was very rushed with me. Acted as if I was an annoyance to him. Did not really listen to my complaints and didnt prescribe the meds I felt I really needed. I had been to Dr. Russ before with good results, but I would never go again, nor would I ever recommend his services to anyone else.

He was in with me maybe 2 minutes, immediately said I needed stronger meds for my condition without barely looking at anything and did not schedule a follow up appointment. Then when the med didn't work as well as it should have, I had to go to a PA who wondered why Dr. Russ didn't also prescribe something to help with the itching too. He is too rushed and doesn't listen. I would not recommend him. Just wants to hurry everyone along.

Not impressed with his thoroughness. He rushed through the appointment. He seemed annoyed to be asked any questions. I think I just paid for nothing more than an introduction. I would request another doctor in the practice.

Horrible!!!! I pulled my daughter out of high school for an 11:15 appt. I fully admit we arrived 8 minutes late to our appointment- upon checking in a rude receptionist said - you were late so Dr. Russ left for lunch and won't be back until 1:15!!! I was 8 minutes late!!!! There was no call to cell checking on status- no I am sorry about this- nothing! This was not our first time seeing him - so he knew I had a teenager and maybe give at least 10-15 minutes! Horrible -
