A MILLION STARS wouldn’t be enough to express how phenomenal Dr. Brian Kopell is! My husband has lived with Parkinson’s for 18 years and we had reached a point where we had to take action. On our initial visit we first met with Dr. Susan Bressman, a brilliant neurologist who introduced us to Dr. Brian Kopell. We formally met with Dr. Kopell a few days before the surgery. We knew from his distinguished reputation that he had done thousands of DBS surgeries and we knew that we were in excellent hands. Not only is he an exceptionally skilled and meticulous surgeon, but he is also one of the most compassionate, empathetic, and caring doctors we have ever met. His entire team is reflective of his commitment to excellence. I don’t say this lightly—our family is full of medical professionals, including our son who is a cranial facial pediatric plastic surgeon and Dean of a medical school. Dr. Kopell’s team is a group of extraordinary individuals who combine expertise with genuine kindness and unwavering dedication. Joan Miravite, Dr. Kopell’s DBS programmer, has 23 years of experience fine-tuning the electrical parameters of the implanted devices used in this procedure. The warmth and professionalism of this extraordinary team turned a stressful situation into one of hope and healing. Throughout the experience, we felt totally supported and at ease. My husband experienced zero pain. Admittedly, he was apprehensive in the beginning but he would do it over again in a heartbeat. And the results? My husband’s dyskinesia totally disappeared, along with a significant reduction in so many of his other Parkinson symptoms! Our family and friends literally cried when they initially saw him post surgery. Absolutely life changing—beyond anything we could have imagined. We will be forever grateful!

Stay Away
After DBS surgery in both sides of brain that caused a worsening of essential tremors symptoms and an array of other problems, this individual only saw me again well over one year later after many complaints and was never involved with the post surgery or programming. He is always, available for new clients, though. It was the worse decision I ever made as the possibility of getting better with no other serious risks is none.

I have had ,clearly, trigeminal neuralgia for the last 15 yrs. Dr.Kopell said I have CPH,which is a bogus diagnosis. He just sort of blew me off saying I'm a surgeon, as though my condition didn't need surgery because my MRI wad normal. Plus, having to see a psychiatrist first was degrading. I see he performs microvascular decompression surgery. That is what I need. Just not sure why he did not even discuss this option with me. He should experience excruciating facial pain for 15 yrs.
