Bunion surgery
I recently had bunion surgery last Nov ember and Dr Frutrel was the one that performed it .He told me that my foot would look better and I trusted him .It is now May 24th 2024 and my foot looks exactly like it did before my surgery ,Nothing changed .I called to schedule and appt with him and they said he was let go and didn’t tell me where he went .I’m stuck with the same condition I had before surgery and I’m very upset .I had to pay up front for a portion of the surgery which was expensive.

Excellent Doctor
My husband was referred to Dr. Futrell two years ago, and we cannot thank him enough for his care and compassion. Since the first visit, Dr. Futrell has gone above and beyond while being innovative and patient as my husband tends to heal slowly and have frequent foot issues. Since the first wound, my husband has had several more wounds/infections as well as surgery, but each time Dr. Futrell provided excellent care! He spends time with us as he explains and listens to our questions and concerns. I can say without hesitation that I trust and have complete confidence in Dr. Futrell, and we highly recommend him.

Poor service. Rude staff
I use to use Futrell regularly, but didn't see him for a while due to an extended rehab stay. In the past he had been a good doctor and his staff was friendly, but when I got out of rehab it all changed. He had a different staff and his professional demeanor had changed. He use to be friendly, but now he was brusque and made me feel I was wasting his time. His new staff were even more unfriendly and unhelpful. After Futrell did surgery on my foot his staff cancelled my follow-up appointment and said they could not re-schedule for SIX MONTHS! I called and left a message for his nurse to see if she could help me see him sooner, but she never returned my calls. Because of the length of time in seeing him for the follow-up to my surgery my foot became badly infected and I had to go to another doctor to get it treated. When I called his office his staff was always rude and unfriendly and they regularly mixed up my appointments and insurance.

A Horrible experience
I had a horrifying experience with Dr. Futrell. As soon as he comes in you can tell he's your cliché surgeon type personality.. talks over the top of you constantly, doesn't actually listen to what you say, etc.. The extra fun part came when he, without any warning, grabbed a tool and wrenched my toenail around until he tore a third of it off to send to the lab. This was excruciating.. to the point I was screaming so loud that I'm sure everyone in the place heard. Clearly, "First, do no harm." and INFORMED CONSENT are not in this man's vocabulary or practice. The rest of the visit was a blur as I was in shock and went on autopilot after this occurred. Needless to say, after processing the trauma of this visit I am now under someone else's care and highly recommend you stay away. I do want to give a shout out to the PA that was working there when I visited. He was very kind and warm in the early part of my visit while taking x-rays and stood out as a quality care provider.

He did not prescribed an extra depth shoe to go with the orthotic insert. That was huge mistake, and he should have realized that I needed an extra depth shoe.

Dr. Futrell helped us save my mother's foot. She received care from two other podiatrists who both recommended amputation of her foot (and potentially lower calf) due to a great toe amputation that just wouldn't close up. We were terrified, and given other health issues, feared that my mom wouldn't recover if we took that drastic step. Dr. Futrell listened to our concerns and worked with us. He visited us at home (when he was with Drs Making House Calls) and, after we moved to VA, continued to provide telephone support and advice. We respected and trusted him so much that when we were looking for follow-up care, we drove 6 hours for an appointment with him! He is patient, direct, and kind and knows his craft and profession. We were a team that saved my mom's foot, but he gave us the expertise and support we needed when everyone else said there was nothing left but more amputation. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I cannot speak too highly of Dr. Futrell. He saved my wife's ankle. It was a horrible break, but after several complications and successful surgeries she is walking again. Dr. Futrell is a great communicator and really cares about his patients. My wife and I both feel so lucky that he is her doctor.
