I wouldn't use him again.
Dr. Black reconnected a torn tendon on my elbow. I had an area on my incision that wouldn't heal. I eventually picked at the scab and pulled one of the 'anchors' out of my elbow. I made sure to take a picture. I visited him one last time and he said, 'That's why I put two anchors in.' This was not the answer I was looking for. Now my other elbow is having issues and after an injection which didn't seem to help, they had me get an MRI. I saw him a final time and he said there's nothing he can do. After waiting an hour, he was just rushing me through the four minute appointment. So I'm going to make an appointment with a new doctor. A lot of time and money wasted.

Dr. Black is extremely unprofessional and his team at ROC are incompetent. My wife was in need of a complete knee replacement, although she didn't know it at the time. The team at ROC was unable to figure out how to x-ray her knee, so they gave her a shot and told her to exercise. When that didn't work, they sent her to physical therapy. Then they shrugged their shoulders and nearly gave up. Ten months after her first visit, the clinic finally figured out how to x-ray her knee. They were surprised to see how bad it was. At that point, they decided to get Dr. Black involved. According to Dr. Black's notes, the first thing he noticed when he saw my wife was that he thought she was ugly. That's right, he actually put that in his notes. He told her that she wouldn't be able to handle the surgery - that he didn't trust her to do what was needed. He wouldn't even tell us what was needed. He refused to operate on her and said she should get a wheelchair and live with the pain.

Review of Dr. Bradford Black and ROC Orthopedic
My wife's experience with Dr. Bradford Black and ROC Orthopedic Center was far from satisfactory. A routine ACL Reconstruction surgery turned into a nightmare of complications and unanswered questions. Shortly after the surgery, she experienced swelling and was diagnosed with a bacterial infection. This marked the beginning of a series of hospitalizations and treatments. Communication from Dr. Black and his team was lacking. Dr. Black said we didn't seem like 'the litigious type', and added that the “investigation” into the cadaver vendor is a “moot point”, summing it up by casually saying “we’ll never know.” He seemed pleased of his decision to dispose of the graft after the infection. The Infectious Disease expert seemed to be in contrast with this decision, saying “I asked Dr. Black if he had sent the graft off for cultures, but he said he did not. That would have been helpful.” By sharing our story, we hope others may advocate for their own care more assertively.

Patient review
Dr Black did my initial TKR but when it came loose & became infected after nearly two years, he did not seem to be interested in treating me. He didn't follow up with me on tests. He didn't return phone messages. He didn't appeal to the insurance company when they denied a bone scan. After three months of waiting, I had to change clinics to get my knee treated.

My last visit with Dr. Black went well--my husband and I had a very pleasant chat with him. He has a great sense of humor and I felt I was in good hands regarding my wrist fracture. You definetely have to take the initiative and ask lots of questions, which is not a bad thing. This was my first broken bone, so was not sure what to expect, but he answered all my questions perfectly.

I was told by Dr. Black to have an MRI and if I didn't receive a scheduling call by Friday to follow-up with his staff. It wasn't until the next week that I finally received a call. The folks at Clearview MRI told me to expect a call about the test results with 24 hours. I called the ROC office only be treated rudely and passive aggressively by someone who would not share my test results with me.

Dr. Black replaced my left knee and eight weeks later he replaced my right knee. He did a great job and had great bedside manner. Dr. Black and Erin his physician's assistant answered all of my questions and they were also kind and compassionate. I highly recommend Dr. Black.

I rarely write reviews, but I feel compelled to comment on Dr. Black and his staff. I have had numerous procedures performed by Dr. Black and he has always been professional, courteous, and able to explain the treatment in “layman’s terms”. Most importantly, each time I have had a positive outcome. Very impressed with Dr. Black and his staff.

I have seen Dr Black for over 5 years for various orthopedic issues. He is ALWAYS kind and engaging. He listened to my concern and we always discussed what approach we'll take together. As long as he's in practice he'll always be my go to ortho doctor!

Dr. Black tells his patient one thing and the insurance company another. I had surgery done by Dr. Black and he was very condescending and rude. The surgery did not relieve my pain, and Dr. Black noted in my chart that I was exaggerating my level of pain. He refused to refer me to a pain specialist, to use a non-addictive drug, and he didn’t follow up with the injections that I was supposed to get in my joint. He just completely ignored me after surgery.

Dr. Black is an excellent surgeon. Not only do my X-rays show the meticulous work he did installing a plate and six screws in my broken ankle, but he took the time to close the wound with dissolving internal stitches, instead of staples or traditional stitches, which made my scar almost unnoticeable just 6 weeks post-op. He listened to my request for an AirCast instead of a plaster cast, which was important to me. I would highly recommend him.
