Dr. Bonnie Maffi, MD

I went in to be evaluated for vaginismus and pain during penetration. The first thing she does is prepare a speculum. I had been told by the PA that I could say no to anything as I have been assaulted and have trauma around penetration. I found it odd that I came in to be evaluated for penetration being extremely painful, and they want to penetrate me with a large speculum with nothing to sedate or relax me? I asked if we could skip it and I instead felt pressured into going with it. I understood Dr. Maffi’s reasoning and explanation of it being necessary but it was way more than I was comfortable with. She wasn’t harsh with it but I had to have them stop because I felt sick and the air got a little awkward after that. I wish I could have felt like I had the privilege and power of being able to say no when it came to decisions around my body that carries trauma. I wish she had been more gentle and sensitive to my circumstances.

I will never forget Dr. Bonnie Maffi and the awful experience I had with her. I was sent to her by one of her colleagues to evaluate for endometriosis. She was mean, rude, sarcastic, and generally cranky. Further, she told me that she didn't understand why I was in her office or why they sent me to her because I was fine and there is no way I should be in her office. She made me feel horrible. I insisted upon a second opinion within the same medical facility, which I was granted. Turns out I did have one of the worst most severe cases of endometriosis they had ever seen, upon further examination and procudures, so Dr. Bonnie Maffi was wrong. Not only was she wrong about the diagnosis, but she did not do the procedure(s) necessary to back up her incorrect statements regarding the diagnosis she made. She was rude and mean and disrespectful of the situation, my feelings, my time, and my money spent to see her. I wish I would never have had to go to the appointment with this doctor.

I found Dr. Maffi to be thorough and attentive. I was a little apprehensive with these negative reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. I have no complaints and I am happy to have found a great gynecologist.

One of the best doctors i have seen in a long time. Finally a doctor that actual helped me instead of brushing my symptoms off. Very attentive and caring. I cannot recommend her enough!

This was my first visit to Mayo's Department of Gynecology. Dr. Maffi was very professional, and friendly. She took a great deal of time with me to discuss my concerns; I left feeling much better than when I arrived.

Dr. Maffi was excellent. She listened to all my concerns and was very thorough. She was very gentle and easy to talk to.

I sadly had the same experience as the other posts. She was very cold and almost made me feel like I didn’t know what I was talking about. She told me based off normal periods that my testosterone wouldn’t be low but yet my regular obgyn did a hormone test and it was below the lowest level and yet my periods were regular. She just shrugged her shoulds. It was also one of the most painful paps ive ever had. Very very cold woman. I left in utter shock on my experience.

The worst experience ever. I left in tears and had a panic attack all the way to my vehicle. I thought I was overreacting or that she was having a bad day or maybe going through a messy divorce. But now that I have read the other reviews, my reaction to her cold demeanor is justified. She is a horrible representation of Mayo.

I saw Dr. Maffi because i had been having trouble with vaginal infections. She told me I didn't have one based on a wet mount. She did not send out a culture and prescribed an "off label" medication. In horrible pain four days later, I returned to my family doctor who did a culture. I had an infection. Dr. Maffi delayed me in getting the treatment I needed. I love Mayo--first bad experience I've had there.

Dismissive. Had an infection she ignored, for which I had to receive treatment elsewhere. Poor reflection on a health care system that I value tremendously.
