Being prepared to face the mortality of your child – there is no such thing. In June of 2020, that is the reality my family was faced with, due to a tragic and inexplicable jet ski accident. My daughter, 12 at the time, was the third rider on a three-person jet ski. She fell off the back of the jet ski where she suffered severe trauma, and in just a matter of hours we were being told she needed life saving surgery. Spinning, our lives were completely caught in a cyclone of uncertainty, worry, fear – you name it we were feeling it. How, as a parent do you endure being faced with an impossible situation like this? Trust, you must feel the utmost of confidence in the Doctors, Surgeons, Nurses and entire hospital staff being placed in our life, very much against any will of your own. I can say with certainty that the entire staff at PRISMA HEALTH, and specifically Dr. Bhairav Shah, created an experience that we felt supported in making the most difficult decisions we had ever faced. Dr Shah explained everything to my husband and myself, the complications we might face after our son had surgery and the benefits. He did not rush us into a decision, in fact he looked at other possible procedures/treatment and we decided as a team what would be best for our son. Status post surgery care has been amazing, willing to listen to us and have us come in to see him whenever we felt something was wrong. So far, no surgery complications. I know he’s a busy doctor, one of the few GI surgeons in the region, and I always feel like I see him as soon as I need to. FYI, our son is special needs and Dr Shah made sure we were prepared for this lifestyle change prior to him even considering performing surgery on our son as it is already a very difficult and life altering procedure for typical children. Outstanding surgeon and he has an amazing office staff.

Dr. Shah is an Exceptional Physician. I've had the pleasure of knowing him now for over a year. He has prepared us for several surgeries. My niece was born without an anus and he walked us through the whole process. Answered questions and our concerns. What makes him exceptional is the way that he cares for my niece, her well-being and her family. He has had family meetings with us to ensure that we all knew my nieces history, and what could be expected in the years to come. I would highly recommend Dr. Shah!

Dr. Shah took care of my son and did a great job, the stitches healed with very minimal scarring. My son also loved him as he was very kind and did a great job making him feel more at ease about the procedure- he has even taken to calling Dr. Shah as "Stitch".

He preformed gallbladder surgery on my daughter and it was a nightmare. I feel so guilty for allowing him to go any where near her. She suffered terrible pain and he did not care. He said he prescribed pain medication based on age. What? She was 16. At that age weight can be as much as 100 lbs difference. He left the office and my husband and daughter were left there waiting for at least an hour. The doctor had to be "called back" to the office.
