Dr. Axel Grothey, MD

Told me I absolutely had stage 4 cancer before we got the biopsy results back. I had two separate cancers both stage 1. You should never diagnose a patient without test results especially one as serious as stage 4 cancer. He was patronizing when I pushed back on his diagnosis and he tried to bully me into using a surgeon who not only hadn’t read my file but was dismissive about how my other health problems could interfere with my surgery and recovery. If you are a women be sure to do your research on this doctor. We wondered why he always had two people with him in an appointment so searched him on the internet.

With out the knowledge Dr. Grothey has and the research he has done my husband would have died many times over. It was Dr. Grothey vigilance and true caring nature that he followed my husband through many cancers. Dr. Grothey was always very professional and informative and truly made sure we understood each treatmean, surgery and at home plan. With so many years with Dr. Grothey I am confident in recommending for any type of cancer needs.

My dad had cholangiocarcinoma, (bile duct cancer). The first doctor who saw him misdiagnosed him and had a chemo and radiation plan for the misdiagnosis. I found Dr Grothey. After research, I instantly trusted him. He has such a good spirit and truly cared about my dad. He treated my dad like he was a person despite the obvious racial and ethnic differences. Upon doing research once we knew the proper diagnosis, I understood we were fighting a terminal disease and that there could be no cure to save him because it was caught in an advanced stage. My dad worked the job he loved through treatments. He stopped working the last 2 months of his life. Dr Grothey gave him a radiation free quality of life. What I will also say is Dr Grothey didn’t see color. My dad is a dark skinned black man. Discrimination amongst his racial group is often heavy. He prolonged my dad’s life and I’m so grateful. I wish all doctors were like Dr Grothey. He’s a blessing I didn’t know we needed.

He was rushed and didn’t spend a lot of time with my family.
