Smooth sailing with this guy
I had reverse shoulder replacement one year ago and it went way smoother than I thought it would. I'd heard horror stories about recovery, but my doc authorized pre-surgery physical therapy and it made ALL the difference. He's an excellent surgeon, left a minimal scar, and honestly within a month I felt like a new man and now a year later, it's like I never had a shoulder issue, it's working perfectly, good as new..which I guess technically it IS! Most importantly: I trusted Dr. A from the start, and after visiting a couple other shoulder specialists, I instantly liked him and his very laid-back, professional and compassionate demeanor. He didn't rush my exam but took the time not to hear but to listen, and that's a huge part of picking someone who's going to do major surgery on you. I'm lucky to live in the Boston area where some of the world's finest health-care can be found, and Dr. A is at the top of that mountain as far as I'm concerned.

He not only was dismissive at my appointment, he put irrelevant and inflammatory information in my notes. ALL attempts to correct this by phone, email, and patient portal message have been ignored for almost TWO YEARS! Stay away from this guy.

Had a total shoulder replacement. Started to have pain after 2 months of PT. Had to practically beg to have a scan. CT came back neg. was told to resume PT. Six months into recovery I can’t lift a 2lb. weight, so they reluctantly send me for a CT w/contrast. That comes back as a complete rotator cuff tear. I immediately call Dr Alqueza’s office to let him know “I never had a rotator cuff issue in my life” a few hours later the radiologist changed his report… He also told me that the pre-op MRI was unclear, implying that I could have had an existing tear but we’ll never know because rather than getting a proper image, he decided to go ahead with the surgery anyway. Spent the past couple days talking to patient relations at Brigham and women’s hospital. Two days just trying to see if this might possibly heal on it’s own and all I get is the name of 3 other surgeons (I could have done that myself) the bottom line is that if they mess up your surgery, you are on your own.

I had a virtual visit with Dr Alqueza for pain I was experiencing in my right shoulder and surrounding area. The doctor had me prepare for the appointment by having me get xrays prior to seeing him. He was thoroughly prepared, listened to my complaints, walked me through several movements to demonstrate the level of pain. He had a personable yet professional manner. He diagnosed my problem, ordered physical therapy and gave me follow up instructions. His post visit report includes everything we discussed.

The Dr. did a total shoulder replacement and reattached my biceps tendon on me the day after Christmas 17'. I am twelve weeks to this day and have zero pain and more range of motion then I had before the surgery. He is an outstanding surgeon to say the least and would highly recommend to anyone. Also after day 4 of the procedure I needed no pain medications since I was pain free which told me he took his time and did little tissue harm.

It was a total waste of important time. He spent the entire time typing while I had my 15 minute visits. He totally did not have me or my hand at best interest. I found him condescending, misleading and 100% cared less about your level of pain or discomfort. It was never asked. He not only gave me misleading information but also gave to my employer which made me look bad. I saw him for a hand injury and never once in the 5 months I saw him he did he ever touch my hand ! Very bad experience!

Dr Alqueza has absolute no regard to pain levels and will only give the absolute bare minimum pain medication. He did my surgery but then had no sympathy whatsoever for my pain level. Unless you have no pain ever or a high pain tolerance I would not recommend him.

Dr Alqueza did not listen to concerns, he was very dismissive of pain, very regrettable experience overall. I got a second opinion and will never be going back to Dr Alqueza again.
