Mitral Valve Replacement
I came to Columbia Presbyterian specifically to have Dr. Geirsson perform robotic mitral valve replacement. When I met with Dr. Geirsson, he fully explained the procedure and his PA, Jessica promptly responded anytime I had a question both before and after surgery. I was back to work within two weeks after surgery and back in the gym doing cardio and light weight training a short time thereafter. I could have gone anywhere in the country for this surgery but decided on Dr. Geirsson. He is a brilliant surgeon and I feel fortunate that I selected him for my mitral valve replacement. Lastly, I can't say enough about the hospital staff in the ICU and Step-Down Unit at Columbia Presbyterian

Robotic Mitral Valve repair with Cox Maze
I met with Dr Geirsson to discuss my procedure. He had an excellent bedside manner, fully explained what was about to happen and answered all my questions. I went in for surgery on a Tuesday morning and was home 2 days later (Thursday afternoon). Pain management once home was over the counter Extra Strength Acetaminophen. I was literally back at work 8 days after my operation. It's incredible! Equally important to me was the team he has working with him. Everyone fully explained the care that I was about to receive. The nurses on the Cardiac unit floor were all great. Eileen and Grace were accessible and quick to respond to a few questions I had once I was home. Dr Geirsson is the man! I highly recommend him.

In a word "fantastic". I needed mitral valve repair surgery, and couldn't have asked for a more skilled, caring and competent cardiac surgeon. From start to finish, Dr. Geirsson and his team explained everything in terms I could understand; I was 100% aware of each step in the process; and felt like they were laser-focused on me as a person and as a patient. The robotic surgery was successful, I was out of the hospital in 3 days and back to work in 2 weeks. I feel great and am glad that I had the surgery when I did. If you need valve work, don't put it off - the sooner you get it done, the quicker you will be up and about. I would not hesitate to return to this provider and his team. Dr. Geirsson has earned my trust and confidence....I recommend him to everyone who needs cardiac work.

I had a robotic mitral valve repair by Dr. Geirsson in January 2021. Dr. Geirsson was thorough, kind, understanding, and communicated everything very well. Everyone associated with Dr. Geirsson and my surgery was also first rate in providing expert care. Every inquiry I had was taken seriously and responses were direct, easy to understand, and individualized. The hospital care at Yale was also excellent, from CICU to discharge, everything needed was provided with both compassion and expertise. I am very pleased with the outcome of the surgery and highly recommend Dr. Geirsson and cardiac care at Yale.

I had a great experience with the team at Yale under the direction of Dr. Geirsson for robotic mitral valve repair in Oct. of 2020. Prior to surgery I got a second opinion from another large healthcare system and consulted personal contacts working in the cardiothoracic industry. The feedback on Dr Geisson and his team was outstanding. He's recognized among his peers as one of the most talented surgeons in the world for this type of procedure. Based on my experience, I would agree. Their diagnostic process was very thorough and included a comprehensive assessment of my overall health and pre-existing conditions. They developed a detailed plan for the surgery, post op care and long-term recovery. In the three months since surgery I've recovered well and am enjoying a much-improved quality of life. I continue to be impressed by the level of care and personal attention I receive in recovery. He and his team do outstanding work.

Dr Geirsson is FANTASTIC! I never had pain the entire time in the hospital. The operation was open heart surgery to repair four clogged arteries and a new aorta value. The staff at Yale was also FANTASIC from the girl who checked me in to the lady out who wheeled me out. The tuffest part was waiting to go into the hospital for the operation. Dr Geirsson is the BEST.

Dr Geirsson saved my life from an anomalous of the left main coronary artery and I can't thank him enough. He was very knowledgeable, provided answers to all our questions about my condition and what the open heart surgery would fix. He was wonderful with my family after the surgery to help them to understand how the surgery went and when I was strong enough to ask he reexplained all the details to me. He has great bedside manor.

I needed to have my mitral valve repaired or replaced. Having other medical complications I chose to have this surgery performed robotically by Dr. Geirsson. I have recovered very well and am walking more comfortably than before the surgery, making it up hills without losing my breath. Dr. Geirsson was professional and thorough and I would highly recommend both him and this procedure to anyone requiring this surgery.
