Unprofessional
A family member was scheduled for surgery with Dr. Romeo when we were notified via MyChart message he was leaving the practice effective immediately, with no information on where he would be going. We were flying in from out of state as Dr. Romeo is one of handful of surgeons in the country who performs this specific procedure. We already booked flights, hotels, and took time off work for the procedure. He’s an amazing surgeon, but we found this to be extremely unprofessional, not to mention disrespectful of our own time.

I think there’s better
Dr. Romeo performed my last 2 surgeries. I was told I could see him or go to Boston. When I had serious concerns about pain following surgery I was told, “Unless there has been an injury, we do not concern ourselves with the integrity of the repair.” I was not taken seriously. He is frequently out of town and it’s very difficult to get an appointment. He does not personally follow up with patients, even when hospitalized after surgery. Most of my follow-up appointments have been with his PA, not Dr. Romeo. His staff is very friendly; however, I was informed today his PA’s have quit. He has lost at least 3 in less than a year. I have waited nearly 2 hours after my appointment time to see him. It has been my experience over the last year he has routinely run late. If you have an option to see someone else, I highly recommend you do. My experience shows me he should have been a last resort and Boston would have been a better option.

Dr Romeo did shoulder replacement surgery on both my right and left shoulders. The right was done in 2010 and in 2018 the rotator cuff tore. In 2019 the left rotator cuff tore after only 4 yrs post op. The right required revision surgery with a reverse shoulder which failed upon the last screw being place due to a small bone fracturing in 3. This shoulder has a hemi or partial replacement and range of motion is horrible. Dr Romeo did not do this revision because he moved out East. Now the left needs a reverse shoulder revision surgery and I’m worried the same thing may happen. These tears were not caused by activity or over stress as I don’t really workout my arms. Why would both arms end in torn rotator cuffs, one 4 yrs post surgical and one 8 yrs post surgical. Beyond frustrated and worse yet, so limited in range of motion. Toileting and wiping are impossible. While in Chicago, Dr Romeo was considered by far one of the best. My shoulders and motion were great until they tore.

We are so lucky to have found Dr. Romeo and his PA Deborah Prouse who initially identified the labral tear by way of a physical exam when it was missed by a different surgeon who actually viewed his MRI. Gratefully, Dr. Romeo did not miss the MRI. Our son is a high level water polo athlete who will not be limited by the injury in the future. He is on track for a full 100 percent recovery! The surgery went perfectly. The follow up care and instructions have been perfect. Perfection is what you want from your doc!! We highly recommend this surgical team!! They are all professional with a warm bedside manner. The office staff was expedient, competent, and efficient. Dr. Romeo and Ms. Prouse lived up to their reputation. We fully trust this team of excellence! Thank you so much for the truly high standard of care!

Dr. Romeo is a excellent surgeon/physician. He did a total shoulder replacement of my right shoulder 2017. This year 2018, Dr. Romeo will be replacing my left shoulder. The right shoulder moves smoothly, now I can reach above my head, behind my back, everything a normal shoulder should do. I have complete confidence in Dr. Romeo. He explained everything, answering all my questions, never rushed through my appointment. I wish him great success in his career in New York! Thank You Dr. Romeo!

Dr Romeo is the most knowledgeable, caring Doctor. Thank you for all you have done for me. The injections in my shoulders were not painful at all and you were always so kind to me. I will always be grateful for the care you provided me. I will miss you. Good luck on your new journey. Who knows maybe I will fly to were you are going just to see you, and if I ever needed surgery, I would come to you, God Bless, S.K.

I have had many contacts with doctors and surgeons over the last few years. It is very hard to get a quick appointment but after the initial wait ! Which is well worth it rest assure you will definitely feel like it is a family member caring for you . My surgery was difficult and was well prepared for and went off without an issue! I can’t say enough about how well I was treated by dr Romeo and staff!

I heartily second all the positive comments here. Personable and accomplished in the extreme, dr Romeo and team are warm and smart and make it all look easier than it is. I had a very challenging shoulder to replace but this was so. Much. Easier. Than I’d imagined. Can’t say enough. Be not afraid!

It takes some time to get an appointment, but for me it was well worth the wait. To be honest your really a number in a rather busy office. But Dr. Romeo, his PA's, and friendly support staff all do a great job taking the time necessary to work with you all along the process. I found Dr. Romeo to be very personable, and anything but arrogant given all his accomplishments. Your questions and concerns have all been heard before, and you can't help but feel reassured and supported when you leave.

Excellent medical care and awesome support staff. Dr. Romeo addressed my complicated shoulder Injury. He was my 4th opinion and I’m so glad I waited to receive care under his skilled hands and knowledgeable team. Staff was extremely helpful with insurance papers, LOA forms and prescriptions. Clear pre -op guidelines and accurate post-op expectations were reassuring.

Both my husband and I have consulted with Dr. Romeo. When we researched leading shoulder experts, we found Dr. Romeo to be one of the best in the country and perhaps the best in Chicagoland. What we like best about Dr. Romeo is his willingness to try alternatives to surgery first. He is open to physical therapy and other non-surgical methods of healing and pain control. And if surgery is needed, going with the best is always a smart move!
