Was a patient for over 15 years. Received many painful injections of which many did not help. Received a lot of medication of which I warned myself down. I was told that if I wanted an injection I would have to ask for it otherwise my visits every 3 months offered no new treatments just continued poorly controlled pain. He showed no empathy or compassion over the years even when I screamed a couple of times during one of his procedures. He left his practice without giving his patients notice and we were left to be reassigned to other physicians at other hospitals. My new physician has subsequently done an injection procedure which is the first humane one I have received in 15 years as well as being offered a variety of treatments and non-narcotic medicines to try & manage the pain which had not been offered for years.

Dr. Guarino is a wonderful pain doctor. Sadly after having him for almost 15 (13 to be exact), he has moved his practice to Florida. I will admit when I first met Dr. Guarino, I felt a little intimidated and unsure if he was going to help me. Yet, after getting to know him and building a trustworthy relationship, as a patient I am grateful for his help. He's strict, but does cares about your overall well-being. Patients with intractable chronic pain struggle a lot. He cares about how you're managing to cope. His team of nurses are also wonderful!! To the above comments about the cost of high drug tests, this fee was not under the office control, it's under our health insurances and with such high deductible, that's the reason the tests were so expensive. However, when it comes to the choice of being able to somewhat live and have professional pain control, I pay it off monthly after calling the billing department office.

Beware to any patient that needs a urine test done. this man will charge you $550 for one done in his office and will discard any test done outside of his racket. He is nothing but a pill dispenser for the pharma companies. Read about the $255,000 he collected for getting other dr,s to prescribe his personal favorites from the pharma companies in a 18 month period. Also he has the personality of a board a very pathetic man and has no business talking to anyone about chronic pain.

Have waited 3 hrs to be seen.Recently broke my leg. HE ordered Xray and told me it was negative.Turns out I had a broken femur and walked on it 2 mos until my surgeon diagnosed the break and shredded meniscus. As a curtesy surgeon asked Guarino to treat the post op pain because he IS A PAIN doctor. He refused and told me he wouldn't let my surgeon touch me(because surgeon is not a Wash U doctor).Guarino is extremely rude and egotistical. Fired guarino and have new pain doc I love!!!

The man is condescending, abrupt & rude. He does not take the time to assess the underlying meaning behind your statements & does not take the time to adequately educate his patients. Basically, he could care less about you, or your significant other, regarding issues of concern. Once u ask a question, and receive his condescending inappropriate (because he didn't understand why or what you were asking) response, u are fearful of asking another. Basically, he's an all around jerk.
