Outstanding, highly knowledgeable, and experienced
Having lived in different places, I have seen a number of psychiatrists and psychologists over the last 35 years. I have more than the average amount of education (a doctorate in biomedical science emphasizing human behavioral neuroscience and addiction) and 8 years of research experience as a university professor in the department of psychiatry. While I’m not trained in clinical work, I have had extensive personal therapy. I feel uniquely qualified to give an educated opinion.I’ve seen Dr. Schuenemeyer about 15 years. I trust her judgment and advice completely. She keeps up with current research and treatments. She listens, knows the right questions to ask, gives sage, succinct advice, and is open to my opinions and questions. She’s punctual, yet I’ve never felt rushed or disregarded, as with other doctors (remember, she’s not a talk therapist). She doesn’t take insurance (I can submit it myself), but her rates are fair. I appreciate her knowledge and skills more than I can express.

Dr. Schuenemeyer is always very pleasant and kind. I've probably been going to her for close to 8 years now. She recommended that I first proceed with a GenoMind. For this, the office staff swiped my inner cheek, sent it off to a lab, and she received all sorts of information / results regarding the amount of Dopamine and Serotonin I was receiving through the neurotransmitters in my brain and how effectively the receptors were grabbing & holding onto these various chemicals. She discovered that I was producing hardly no Dopamine or Serotonin, ultimately creating anxiety/depression... which led to substance abuse. She is absolutely one of the brightest psychiatrists in San Antonio when it comes to prescribing medications to help someone get their life back together. She absolutely saved my life, in my opinion, and I'll forever be grateful for her willingness to tweak my meds around & try various combinations, until finding the best meds for my chemistry. She recommends counseling or therapy, along with her treatment... because she's not necessarily there to talk with you for an hour. I go to her every 3 months, it costs $140, the appointment is 15 minutes, and she doesn't accept insurance. It's expensive, but she's incredibly knowledgeable, as long as you share with her exactly how you have been feeling and remain truthful with her. She's a no nonsense doctor, so she wants (and expects) to see progress with her patients.

Correction...Dr Schuenemeyer graduated Valedictorian from Mt. Sinai in New York, not the Universidad de Cuenca.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Schuenemeyer for a few years now and this review is long overdue. Dr. Schuenemeyer is the best psychiatrist I’ve ever had. She is highly knowledgeable, easy to talk to, listens, makes time for emergencies, and keeps herself at the forefront of new medical therapies, but not before she knows real world studies. I’ve been to doctors who I could walk in and out in 5 minutes with 5 prescriptions and I don’t know what they’re for. I am a patient of many doctors and I can’t count on one hand the doctors I believe are fantastic. Dr. Schuenemeyer is at the top.

I have now been seeing Dr. Schuenemeyer for about 5 years. I have absolutely no complaints about her or her staff. My only concern is this practice does not accept medicare, which puts a burden on senior citizens.
