One very satisfied customer
I would highly recommend Dr. Yew. After years of increasing back and leg pain, leg numbness when walking and loss of strength in my leg as well as foot drop, I was at the point of needing spine surgery. I was very lucky to be matched with Dr. Yew. His explanations were detailed with plenty of space for questions. He discussed the risks, potential benefits of surgery and ensured I had explored all non-surgical options. After the surgery, I had very little post-surgical pain after the being discharged from the hospital. 5 weeks out I am completely pain free with the leg numbness gone! Dr. Yew is a very skilled neurosurgeon. His confidence and experience is amazing and he has changed my life.

Successful spine surgery
This review is long overdue. After suffering back pain for several years, I went to Dr. Yew for a consultation. Dr. Yew went to great lengths to explain my conditions. I underwent the complex surgery and was thrilled to wake up from surgery completely pain free and am now going on two years totally pain free. Dr. Yew is a superb surgeon and has my deepest gratitude.

excellent care
I had a serious bicycle accident which resulted in a lumbar spinal fracture. The neurosurgery team at Lahey indicated that treatment of injuries like the one I received was part of Dr. Yew's. He visited me in the surgical ICU prior to surgery and carefully explained what would take place. The outcome from the surgery was very good, and Dr. Yew and his office did an excellent job of supporting me in my recovery. The crash was a frightening incident in my life. I'm very happy to have benefited from Dr. Yew's medical expertise; he helped get me through it.

Dr Yew is batting 1000!
This is now my second major spinal surgery with Dr. Yew. The first was a life changing laminectomy in my lumbar region, and this latest was an anterior discectomy and fusion. Surgery went perfectly with little post-op discomfort at all. I am once again entirely pain free!! I hope Lahey holds onto Dr. Yew as he is one of their all stars! I also hope he doesn't retire before I expire :-).

Lumbar Decompression and fusion L4-L5, L5-S1
Have your surgery!! Don't be scared. I am 59 years old and have suffered with progressive back issues my whole life; the last three years leaving me pitched forward, stiff, weak, flares of sciatica, and loosing function. I did not ask for a specific doctor, but lucky for me, I was scheduled with Dr. Yew!! He is a pretty straight-forward guy and very knowledgeable because he's seen it all, and performed surgery on it all before! I looked at his credentials after I had my first appointment, and I was very impressed and happy that I lucked out with the best! Honestly, the surgery is not that bad. This was my first surgery ever. I felt swollen and sore, and only took 13 of the narcotic pill that was prescribed, and that was in the first 4 weeks. Rest, Ice or heat and following the daily physical therapy plan worked great for me. I walked into Lahey from the parking garage at my 6-week post-op visit, no problem! Standing up straight! No pain! Back to my life at 3 months post-op.

My Surgery with Dr. Yew
I am a 75 year old female and my PCP recommended Dr. Yew because I was having some serious back issues. After seeing him in early January, 2022, surgery was recommended - spinal fusion. Because I work part time for a tax preparer I delayed surgery until the beginning of May. I had been seeing a physical therapist and during that time we concentrated on building up my core muscles so that I would be in better shape for the surgery. I had my six month check-up in November and Dr. Yew said I am just about fully healed. When I got approval to do P. T. (after six weeks) I went and continued with that. My summer was just about normal - not quite as much activity and I feel absolutely great now - I know something was done to my back, but no pain and feel I can do anything I want.

One of the best
My PCP recommended I go see Dr. Yew about dealing with my scoliosis pain. I was skeptical since it meant having to go to Lahey, which is usually a nightmare to get in and out of. I went anyways and I have to say that Dr. Yew is easily one of the best medical professionals I have ever dealt with. Extremely kind, patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. I would recommend him any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Whatever Lahey is paying this guy, they should take it and triple it.

Saw only NP who offered no suggestions.
Unable to see him. NP did entire appointment and offered nothing. My primary care physician found another surgeon for me to visit. Went to see MGH surgeon who offered surgery. But I was never able to see Dr. Yew, even though I had an appointment. Very disappointed and dissatisfied.

A wonderful experience
With pleasure, I join the growing ranks of patients singing the praises of Dr. Andrew Yew. As an otherwise very active 73-year-old man I became hobbled by Sciatic nerve pain. My PCP arranged for a consult with Dr. Yew who explained very clearly my problem – a Synovial Cyst in the L4/L5 area causing pressure on the nerve. Dr. Yew advised a conservative approach to start - The Pain Center for an epidural steroid injection, as well as PT. A non-surgical treatment, though, he cautioned may not work. I appreciated his approach and candor. I got a little better but in time I knew my only path to improvement was to have surgery. I never considered anyone else, and I didn't read any reviews. Dr. Yew's approach, manner, his very thorough explanation, and supreme confidence was enough for me. The result is amazing. I am now pain-free. And during my recovery, I required no narcotics. Dr. Yew is the absolute best. I am profoundly grateful I had his expert care which has enabled me to resume life.

My age is 54 years and I have never had any major medical issues. I am healthy, fit, and a bit "averse" to medical procedures/surgeries. I herniated my disc 14 weeks ago and had severe pain, discomfort, and restricted movement. Several therapeutic scenarios were presented to me by advisors, including surgery by Dr. Yew (due to the onset of "drop foot"/weakness in my left foot/toes and risk of permanent nerve damage). Dr. Yew has performed thousands of these procedures including L2-3 laminectomy, medial facetectomy, foraminotomy and discectomy (what I had done to me). Pre-surgery, he put me at ease and I felt extremely confident in his skills and explanation of what to expect. The results for me are perfect; the pain is gone, ease of movement restored, and drop foot gone. I can walk at full speed and start my next stage with Physical Therapy only 6 weeks after surgery. I will be skiing and back to Orange Theory in another 6 weeks and am grateful to Dr. Yew and his team at Lahey.

Two words describe Dr. Andrew Yew; "Rock Star"! I had lumbar spinal fusion surgery, two-level of the L4-S1 on 3/16/21. I truly believe that it was Dr. Yew's high level of surgical excellence and his professional staff at Lahey Hospital Burlington that enabled me drive and return to work in two weeks! To date I have been pain free with limited restriction to assure my recovery! After enduring constant pain throughout most of 2019 I stubbornly sought medical advice and was diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis, Spondylolisthesis, Spondylolysis in December of 2019. After months of physical therapy and an increase of pain throughout 2020 I sought out for a second opinion with Dr. Andrew Yew. I found Dr. Yew exceptionally informative with his diagnosis and recommended course of treatment. I was truly comforted with the level of confidence I recognized in listening to Dr. Yew that I elected him as my neurosurgeon and I would strongly encourage you to do the same!

Dr. Yew performed a laminectomy & discectomy on my L5-S1 on Feb 4th. I have not had the time to get around to writing a review because I finally got my life back and have been out doing various activities! Prior to surgery, my entire leg was numb and I could not stand or walk. I am back to my full activity load (post PT of course!) and loving life again. Being only 24, back surgery was never the plan for me but I am so thankful and happy that I went through with it. I would recommend this surgery & Dr. Yew to anyone who is suffering from nerve pain and/or numbness. Dr. Yew & his team were extremely nice and helpful throughout this entire process. He always took the time to stop & ask to see if I had any questions or concerns.

the entire team at Lahey Neurosurgery explained every aspect of what would happen at every stage of my journey from living with pain to today, 40 days after cervical fusion, of being pain free. Dr. Yew answered all of my concerns and explained every possibility of the outcome of the procedure. Dr. Yew also represented me in an appeal against my insurance company who initially denied the procedure. At every stage his team worked with me and for me to see this through.

I recently underwent Thoracic/Lumbar Fusion Spine Surgery at Lahey Medical Center. Dr. Yew could not have been more caring, understanding and kind. He put me at ease from the first meeting. He explains procedures in detail and takes the scary out of it. My results have been life changing... zero pain. I had minor surgical pain (of course), but after a week no more meds—not even an aspirin. I enjoy walking again! After years of searing pain down my legs, I can now say I am totally pain free thanks to the skills and knowledge of Dr. Yew. And I would be remiss if I didn’t give a nod to the hospital staff. All were exceptional-I received great care. Spent two nights at the hospital and all aspects of my stay went smoothly and professionally. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Yew and his staff to anyone.

Dr. Yew works miracles. He performed a L4-L5 fusion and laminectomy on me 3 months ago and I’m doing great. Before the surgery I could not walk through a supermarket without my legs going completely numb and feeling like I had a huge shard of glass in my spine. Since day 2 post-op, I have had little or zero pain and am already up to hiking 8-10 miles. If I didn’t see the X-rays, I would have thought time was rewinded. I am 42 and feel like I have my 30-year old back again. I was reasonably fit and not on taking any medication at the time of surgery which probably helped but Dr. Yew is awesome. Attentive, knowledgeable and good bedside matter from beginning to end. Tge neurosurgery staff (including nurses) and Lahey hospital staff was also superb. I couldn’t be happier with the results 3 months out from surgery.

I was absolutely terrified of the surgery I needed. Dr. Yew was far more caring and gentle than I expected. He was kind from the beginning. His quiet confidence made me feel safe. I healed quicker than expected, I had no complications, and I couldn't be more grateful. I spoke with technicians while I was getting scans and so on and his reputation was known amongst everybody I spoke to. Every single person said I was in good hands, and he's the best. I've never heard that before. I'm a slight of hand artist. I told him that and he knew immediately how important my fingers are to me. I almost chose not to have the surgery and then I met him. I don't ever want to have surgery on my neck again, but if I do I'm going to find him. He genuinely made me feel safe.
