I cannot emphasize enough how cared for I felt during my time at Virginia Mason. I was undergoing gender-affirming surgery, which is obviously very sensitive. Every single provider I worked with went above and beyond to make me feel seen and cared for; the entire process was so smooth and supportive that I broke down into tears of gratitude after receiving a call from the office a few days post-surgery to see how I was doing. Thank you so much - this surgery is truly life-saving, and I owe it all to Dr. Schmidek's team.

The doctor comes across a little aloof to your concerns. It would be to her advantage to show a little more compassion towards her patients. She doesn't seem real friendly and caring!!

Dr. Schmidek's pre-surgery consultation with me was extremely good. She patiently addressed all my concerns and made me feel like a partner in the decisions about how to proceed. She could teach a master class in bedside manner to all practicing physicians.

I had ftm top surgery with Dr. Schmidek, and she is a rock star! Seriously, an artist. My results are exquisite, and I love bantering with her. I laughed so hard during today's followup and during pre-op. Her technique and followup routine is brilliant, and I only needed pain medication the first day after surgery. Based on another review, I was a bit concerned about body shaming, as I was slightly over her BMI limit at the first consultation and kept bobbing under and over it. She wasn't the least bit fatphobic with me, nor was anyone else in the practice. I was also concerned she'd have issues with my age, as I'm 62 and my skin has lost some elasticity. Nope, she flat out said that wouldn't be a problem.Again, I couldn't be more pleased with my results. She's smart, extremely competent, witty, patient with my incessant questions, and direct, which I appreciate very much. 1000% recommend.

Dr. Schmidek was warm, personable, and very thorough in her explanations. She listened to my concerns and answered my questions.

Dr. Schmidek was wonderful. She seemed to know what she was talking about, she was willing to discuss various options, she answered all my questions, she was careful to give me realistic expectations. I felt I could trust her.

I recently had breast reduction surgery with Dr. Schmidek and couldn't be happier with the process and the results. At my two initial appointments, Dr. Schmidek gave me all the time I needed to ask questions and make a decision about going forward. The surgery went flawlessly and I had NO pain afterward. At 6 weeks I have healed well and am beginning to be fully active again. Follow-up appointments were enjoyable - Dr. S has a great sense of humor and I will miss visiting with her! SO pleased with the results, so happy Dr. S was referred by a friend.

10/10 transmasc chest masculinization technique. Very practical manner, but way better at answering questions and patient respect/consent than other surgeons I met with prior to my consultation. Worth the wait, which was honestly several months long and I called relentlessly to make sure paperwork was in the right places. Results are EXACTLY what I wanted. I felt listened to, and the entire team allowed me to show them photos, explain my concerns, and describe what I wanted. I followed Dr. Schmidek's instructions exactly and my healing went extremely well. There was a snag with a communication over pain management, but it was worked out eventually. OR was super clean and extremely comfortable. Anesthesia was a breeze. They loaded me up with every supply I needed for my bandaging and draining at my post-op appointments. I personally think my chest looks sculpted; better than many other results I've seen from other surgeons. No regrets. The team is patient and knows what they're doing.

I had top surgery with Dr Schmidek 4 weeks ago and to say I am happy with the results is an understatement! The scars look amazing, I’ve had no complications and she and her team have been awesome!Everyone’s kind and happy to help!Dr Schmidek answered every question I had and made sure everything looks good and is healing well.
