Dr. Alexander Sheppe, MD

We had no idea what to do with our daughter. Apparently it is known as a 'failure to launch.' Doctor Sheppe diagnosed the problem and told us as parents we needed to make major changes before our daughter would get better. Honestly we didn't want to hear it. It was so hard. But I can say now 1000% he was right. We put a lot of boundaries in place at home and tied rewards to behaviors and she saw him for therapy. She isn't 100% better but it is a total change. I almost can't believe it. If you are struggling with parenting and feel stuck or trapped, this is the guy.

My son was basically not able to attend school or do any work. No one could figure out what to do. He was put on all kinds of meds, nothing worked. This doctor figured out it was a personality disorder and explained it so clearly. My husband and I were terrified of our own kid, because he would threaten suicide. Dr. Sheppe gave us a clear plan of action. It was really, really hard work but we made huge changes at home and now our son is going off to college and we are a family again. Dr. Sheppe has a reputation as the 'teenager whisperer' it's true. He will tell you hard truth and help you. We are so grateful as parents, and our son is too.

Saw Doctor Sheppe for about 6 months and he is a psych that actually cares. He took his time to get to know me over a few meetings before diagnosing or writing any scripts which is rare these days. His description of what was going on was thorough and spot-on. You can tell he really cares. I got a lot better seeing him when other psychs were not helpful. I recommend him to anyone struggling out here, he will help you!

I saw this doc for three years and he saved my life. I was misdiagnosed with OCD and bipolar and he figured out I had borderline personality when no one else had. It was really hard work but we did therapy for almost three years and I'm not suicidal anymore. In fact I moved out of my parent's house and got a job and am dating a great guy. I couldn't have done it without this doc. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I was pretty lost and have seen a lot of psychs, and this Doctor was definitely one of the most warm and comprehensive I have ever seen. He was really interested in getting to know me and took the time to make sure he understood my symptoms before prescribing anything. I had a lot of questions and he answered all of them very patiently. Highly recommend

This doctor was one of the kindest doctors I have ever met. He was really patient with me and was so thorough. I felt really listened to, most psychiatrists meet with you like 10 minutes and write a prescription. You can tell he really cares and wants to get to know you and answer all your questions. I just had to leave this review because I was so thankful!

Dr Sheppe appears to be educated and well spoken, but in my experience, has a poor bedside manner. He is impatient and cannot be bothered to answer questions. If asked to describe, I would say he is epitome of a stereotypical big city psychiatrist….you can fill in the blanks. He required 3-45 minute visits just to write a one month refill for a stable patient who recently moved to NYC, so 1.7K for 30 days of medication. Unless you’re okay paying over $13 per minute to be talked down to, find a different provider. I can generally get along with just about anyone, but found him to be lacking compassion and off-puttingly grandiose.

I was in therapy with Dr. Sheppe for almost 3 years and one thing I learned working with him was how to trust again. I was having a lot of issues at work and with men because of my past. It took a lot of work and was not always comfortable but I always felt Dr. Sheppe was listening to me and was very patient with me. He understood me sometimes when I didn't even understand myself. I learned how to trust again because of my trust in him. I highly recommend this doctor.

I wanted to write this review because this doctor helped me so much. I saw him for two years for TFP for borderline. So many other doctors had misdiagnosed me and he was so clear, it sounded just like me when he described the problem. Therapy is really hard which I was not always expecting but he stuck with me no matter what and I would encourage any people out there seeing him to stick with him too. He will really help you when most other people won't.

Doctor Sheppe is incredible. My daughter was on all kinds of medications that were causing many problems and he very clearly explained a better solution. She is on less medicine and doing therapy with him and she is finally doing so well in life. He is warm and answered all our questions which were a lot! His decisions were very clear. My daughter is finishing high school thanks to him.

Dr. Sheppe helped my teenage daughter find herself again. He's kind, empathetic, and it's obvious he really cares about her and us. She was struggling so much, we didn't know where to turn, and are so glad we found him. She was depressed and had a hard time going to school, and now she's back to being a straight-A student. Thank you doctor for your compassion and help!

Dr. Sheppe saved my life. I was really struggling with a personality disorder which had been previously misdiagnosed as depression or bipolar disorder. I engaged in treatment with him and it was really hard to examine myself and make a lot of changes, but his warmth and compassion helped me so much. I can honestly say I might not be alive today without him. Now I am working at a job I really love and feel much better about myself as a person. I can't recommend him enough if you need treatment for this kind of problem.
