Dr. Alex Schumaker, MD

I had a lengthy inpatient stay back in January 2021. Dr. Schumaker was very kind and listened to all of my concerns regarding my health status and treatment plan. I feel that he was a big reason I was able to make it through such a tough time.

I am writing this because I am being forced to remove my father, Randall Davis, from Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak even though he is a fall risk. There are two entrances into his home and both entrances have seven stairs each. The staff who has tended to him during his stay has been well aware that he needed to be able to walk up and down seven stairs 3 times a week so he could go to dialysis and wound care. Earlier this week we were told he would be discharged on June 2nd even though he was only able to take three stairs. We filed an appeal and the afternoon of on Friday, June 4th we were notified the appeal had been denied and he would be discharged the following day, Saturday, June 5th at noon. There was no option given for him to go into a skilled care facility. Being that he is unable to get into his own home the only option is for him to go into the home of his 85-year-old mother.
