Dr. Akram Elawady, MD

Despite constant requests, Dr. Elawady chose not to contact me as a patient advocate regarding the care of a family member. Dr. Elawady did not seek information about the patient. He remained absorbed in his own position of power and medical authority without inquiring or seeking information that would broaden his knowledge about the patient. Dr. Elawady used psychiatry as a cudgel of moral judgment, power, and hubris to contain and gaze at his patient rather than treat his patient. He is arrogant, self-absorbed, and shows little time or regard for the patient or family members. I strongly urge you or your family members to seek and obtain a different doctor.

I am the family patient advocate of a patient under the care of Dr. Elawady. From the onset of the patient's admission, Dr. Elawady was remiss in contacting me as the patient advocate. He maintained that he evaluated the patient twice before recommending a 302. He only met with the patient once for under 2 minutes. Dr. Elawady clearly misrepresented the level of care and insight he had about the patient. I do not recommend him and urge others to find a doctor who is willing to find the time to speak with patient advocates and family members.
