Dr. Afaq Gul, MD

I was looking for a small, independent practice. However, this doctor seems to be content to visit with you in the office but offers no support or follow-up after the fact.Someone from their office called me on a Thursday after and abnormal mammogram, and said they would call me back Friday morning with a referral. I tried to be considerate and not bug them, but when I did not hear back on Friday morning as promised, I called in the afternoon and got their 'answering service' that told me they were closed and the only thing I could do was call back Monday. The worst part is he referred me to Women's Imaging Specialists, which is a waste of time and money for a diagnostic mammogram, since, if you do need a biopsy, they will send you another provider, who will perform the same diagnostics again on their own equipment. Aside from the time, money and stress this wastes, it delays treatment. Mine may have been a one-off experience, but I feel the need to give fair warning.

Dr. G. always takes all of the time you need to fully answer any and all questions - that is totally different from every experience I've ever had with a doctor. He tries to start treatments with the least intrusive and most cost effective way, working up to major interventions and medications when necessary. It's easy to book appointments, his staff is always helpful, authorizations and such are never an issue, and he even returned a call after-hours when I had a bit of an emergency (or so I thought).

I do not trust his diagnosis. He would not provide my normal prescribed medications that I had taken for 20 years, causing me to have extreme withdrawals. He was definitely paranoid about things that I won't mention here until I find a new doctor. He referred me to specialist too far away to travel and the specialty was definitely not correct for my condition. There were long wait times while in the back office, yet the appointment was rushed and did not accomplish the purposes of the visit. The staff was friendly enough.

He is the best Dr. I have had and my daughter really likes him also. He is very straightforward but also listens to what you’re saying which is rare. I hope he opens his own practice soon!!
