Terrible experience. My daughter was immediately released from ICU after extubation. I am not sure who made that decision-perhaps the PGY2 Dr. Khan because it was a weekend. She still had thick copious secretions. I begged Dr. Diwan to keep her there for a short time, prone her as we did at home. He said"I'll think about it. She can be monitored on the floor-doesn't need ICU. She had 2 instances of near arrest on the floor from mucus plugging. I begged him again after the 1st time to take her back. He would not. After the second arrest, the charge nurse saved her by deep suctioning and arranged to get her back to ICU. They left me in an outside room for2 hours not knowing whether she was dead or alive. They reintubated her and that started a long downward cycle until we transferred her to Cornell. Bad decision-maker, bad care.
