Dr. Abdul Faisal, MD

Dr. Faisal oversaw my mental health/med management for 5 years. I found him consistently thoughtful, empathetic, observant, professional, and courteous. He always had specific and thoughtful inquiries, gave thorough, clear answers, and worked capably with a variety of providers/systems. He’s a particularly careful and skilled communicator, and I always felt I was in good hands. In my time there, I never had a single issue — not an office mishap, not an insurance irregularity, not an instance of friction with a single person or system. It was a smooth, predictable, pleasant, and efficient experience every time, which was a real treat. Engaging a mental or physical health provider is a vulnerability-rich chore, so just like stressful interactions and unpredictability at a doctors office are extra unpleasant, frictionless experiences are extra soothing and satisfying. I would recommend the whole Novant Behavioral Health office to anyone, and if I hadn’t moved, I’d still be there.

Doctor Faisal is respectful of your time. However, he moved me on and off so many medicines within a 6 month period that they were never given proper time to work. When I finally had success with a medicine, he increased my dosage and I began to experience side effects. He refused to lower the dosage and kept bumping me from medicine to medicine. To this day, I have not felt as good as I did on that one medicine. I was so burnt out that I stopped seeing him. When I applied for a government job, I asked him to fill out paperwork regarding my time spent with him and he refused. Thankfully, I saw another psychiatrist that willingly spent weeks getting to know me and then writing their own recommendation. However, I have never been so appalled by the lack of empathy and patience as demonstrated by someone in the Psych field as I was with Doctor Faisal. As a young and ambitious person, I was very disappointed and discouraged.

I have seen Dr.Fiasal for about 8 years. He has always been professional and respectful. He is very knowledgeable and throughly explains my treatment plan to me. He asks me questions about my mental health and he always listens. His office staff has always been friendly and competent.

Dr. Faisal is a genuinely caring person and very easy to talk to. He is a true professional and a master of his craft. I highly recommend him.

I have been seeking a psychiatrisst for the past 25 years. I just recently moved to Virginia and I needed a new Dr. In this area so I contacted and went to see this psychiatrist. When I went for my appointment, I asked him i he would fill out a form from my Life Insurance company that is only 1 page and that I have to send it in to them every year in August. I was floored what hee told everyone- he said " I do not fill out any paperwork, I have too many patients and needed to find another Dr."

Best psychiatrist I ever had. Has narrowed in on my disorders, and the different medications have changed my life for the positive. He never makes me feel rushed, and asks pertinent questions to make sure & keep things updated. You can tell he really cares. The office is nice, the staff as well.......and I am quickly seen when I arrive for an appointment. The few times I have had to reach out in between appointments, he got right back to me.
