At the very first visit, Dr. Mahrous recommended surgery for my macular hole. He made it sound like I needed surgery right away. Being scared, I sought second, third, and fourth opinions, just to be sure, from other ophthalmologists all over NYC, all with years of more experience. They UNANIMOUSLY agreed that surgery was entirely UNNECESSARY - one chuckled and said it was overkill for my condition. Rather, they all recommended monitoring every few months. Needless to say, I never went back to Dr. Mahrous. Remember, medicine is also a money-making business.

Very good doctor
I saw Dr. Mahrous because of a black spot in my eye that’s been bothering me for years. I was worried it was growing and feared the loss of my vision completely. He saw me immediately and was very accommodating to my concerns. I ask a lot of questions due to my inquisitive nature and he made sure to take the time to address them. Just to reassure you all reading, the black spot in my eye is NOT growing and will be monitored annually from now on.

Best eye doctor in NYC
I came in for problems with my vision after being referred by my general ophthalmologist for a retinal detachment. Dr. Mahrous was able to see me right away owing to the urgency of my issue. He was compassionate, caring and extremely knowledgeable. He made me feel like I was in excellent hands! My surgery was a success and he was able to correct the defect and also explain to my wife and I how recovery was going to be. Dr. Mahrous saved my vision and my livelihood and I am forever indebted to him. I recommend him to everyone I know!

Hole in retina.
I was having some new issues with my vision so I called Cornell Weill for an appointment with a retina specialist I had previously seen. They were not available but Dr, Mahrous was and I am glad he was. He was very thorough and pleasant but found a hole in my retina! A complete surprise to me. He clearly explained what this means and what could happen if left untreated. I chose to let him perform the surgery/laser procedure (done with a laser mounted to a headpiece! Simply amazing.). The surgery went well and just as it was explained. I really cannot adequately express how happy I am with Dr. Mahrous' service and professionalism.
