Poor Care for Elderly with Dementia
It appears that young Dr. Tanner has no clear understanding of 90 year old patients with dementia. (Perhaps this is a course that should be taught in medical school.)There is a great need to take the 'whole' patient and their ability to comply into consideration when recommending surgery, PT and OT. Surgery, regardless of how minor it may seem to the doctor, for a patient in this state of being, should always be a last resort. And on a last note, when you keep a 90 year old sitting in a back room for over an hour to have stitches removed in what should be a <5 minute task, at least have the common courtesy to apologize when you finally enter the room!
