Since UNC Blue Ridge took over, medical care and patient experience has suffered. My provider has been a great doctor, but now the administrative team makes getting care difficult and expensive. I feel more like a number and a check book than a patient. The referral that was sent to the local hospital is very overpriced, just to keep me in the UNC Network. I’ve found a provider outside of the UNC system that is a fifth of their rate, and I simply need my records and a referral sent to my chosen provider, but this practice won’t send records without “insurance pre-authorization”. My insurance has already pre-authorized the procedure and sent me a letter confirming such. The medical records number only takes voicemails, so obtaining records to make an appointment for yourself is impossible. I have an appointment to establish myself with a with a different family doctor next week, and I have been driving to Asheville for specialist care simply to avoid the UNC Blue Ridge network.
