I scheduled an appointment for a consult to have a procedure called panniculectomy done . On Wednesday before my appointment on Monday I received a message to contact their insurance person, Tina. Tina explained that as of June 30, 2021 the group would no longer do panniculectomy. They would do an abdominoplasty which is not covered by insurance since it is considered cosmetic. Cosmetic surgery is completely out of pocket for the patient. During the conversation, Tina stated that she had to contact people who had been precertified to have the procedure and inform them that the procedure would not be done. I am upset. I explained that I feel this is ethically wrong. I feel that the surgeons should have allowed patients with appointments , precertified and scheduled procedures to proceed. I really feel sorry for patient who had already had approval for the procedure. I want the physicians to know how much they have let down their patient. What is the rule of medicine: do no harm.
