However, you need to understand this has created a market for nurse practitioners and you will NOT see a doctor which is fine considering we are sophisticated consumers and can usually well articulate our symptoms. I had been suffering with what I thought was IBS for well over a year. When ntermittent vomiting started I found I had lost 50 pounds and assume colon cancer genetics had caught up with me. When I went in, I was told that my glucose levels were nearly 500 and that I "should immediately go to the ER" but was prescribed injectable insulin and metformin. The problem? It took 3 weeks to get the prescriptions phoned in and when they arrived, noone had ordered needles or a glucometer and strips. It took another 3 weeks. Bottom line, I lodged a formal grievance with Medicare.
