My name is Margaret Sicari, but please call me Peggy. I am a Clinical Social Worker licensed in the state of New York where I have been practicing for over 25 years. I've been a therapist in private practice, a clinician in an agency, a social worker in a high school, a clinical supervisor and Director in a program. I have worked with individuals, couples, families and groups. My experience in a variety of settings and positions have resulted in me working with a diversity of people with a diversity of life challenges. The most common issues clients present are anxiety and depression, relationship problems, emotional abuse, childhood trauma, damaged self-esteem and poor coping skills. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, coping with addictions, motivation, self esteem, and confidence, & career difficulties. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. I am a licensed mental health counselor in the state of New York with over 8 years of experience working as a clinician. My background includes working with survivors or assault/abuse, human trafficking, those with problematic substance use, individuals that identify as LGBTQ, and a wide variety of mental health diagnoses (including anxiety, depression, and mood disorders). My counseling style comes from a compassionate, authentic, and nonjudgmental approach. Much of my skills and techniques are driven from mindfulness. When working with clients I believe in providing a safe environment for others to be their authentic selves. I also incorporate cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy; person centered approach; as well as other therapeutic techniques dependent on the needs of my client. I believe that the client is the expert of themselves and as the counselor; my role is to assist in providing support in addressing problematic life areas and guidance in improving the quality of life.
