Christine Townsend, MD is an Assistant Professor at Columbia University Medical Center's Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine. Dr. Townsend is a former dancer who spent 6 years performing professionally and teaching dance prior to earning her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry at the University of Missouri Kansas City. Dr. Galatz is the Mount Sinai Professor and Chair of the Leni and Peter May Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Icahn School of Medicine at the Mount Sinai Health System in New York. She specializes in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, with expertise in Sports and Reconstructive procedures including instability, rotator cuff disorders, and joint replacement. She words with a multidisciplinary team to address patient needs encompassing operative and nonoperative management. Her primary research interest throughout her career has been basic science of rotator cuff disease and tendon healing as it pertains to cuff repair. She is a Co-Primary Investigator on two major projects funded by the National Institute of Health which focus on rotator cuff degeneration and repair, and tissue engineering strategies for tendon repair. Her research is complemented with clinical projects with her colleagues on Shoulder and Elbow problems.
