I have been in the helping profession since 2008 and have 8 years experience as a therapist. I have worked in a variety of settings: client's homes, schools, places of employment and in office. I have experience as a Personal Care Assistant, Job Coach, Direct Service Professional, Mental Health Practitioner, In-patient Therapist, and Outpatient Therapist. I have interned in a chemical dependency rehabilitation facility (that focused on minority women) as well as interned in multiple K-12 schools. My experiences have helped shape the therapy I do today. I have the most experience working with Depression, Anxiety, Addictions, Relationship Conflicts, and Life Transitions. I also have experience with Bipolar Disorders, PTSD, ADHD, OCD, Hoarding, Grief & Loss, and Spiritual Issues. I consider myself a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist as well as Solution-Focused Brief Therapist. I also utilize Existential, Multicultural, Motivational Interviewing, Family and other therapies as needed. I believe in looking at all the individual pieces that make up the entire person and assessing how each aspect of a person's life contributes to their overall functionality or dysfunction. In session, we work to develop insight and connect that to daily, weekly, and long-term goals. I look to create a sense of hope within a person that will motivate them to achieve their goals. I believe ultimately that YOU are the expert on your life! You know yourself better than anyone and have the final say in goals and interventions that we practice. Having said that, my role will be to provide safety, confidentiality, empathy, and a non-judgmental atmosphere. I think therapy is like driving a car: we occasionally glance back to see where we have been, while mainly looking forward to where we are going and focusing on the present moment. Hello! Thank you for taking a few minutes to learn more about me! My name is Dani and I've been working in the substance use and behavioral health fields for thirteen years. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota Duluth and a master's degree in mental health counseling from Capella University. I am an independently licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Minnesota as well as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I have worked primarily in the non-profit sector but, have worked directly with corrections, court, and probation clients during that time as well. Although I have worked with adolescents, my primary focus has been adult clientele. I have additional training in grief counseling and working with individuals that have experienced trauma. The majority of my experience has been with those that have concerns with both substance abuse and mental health. This allows me to help with not only mental health concerns but, substance abuse issues and how the two intertwine. I have worked in a small community and due to this, have learned the importance of protecting confidentiality and the benefits of engaging in online counseling to ensure you have an objective opinion. Throughout my career I have subscribed to the idea of cognitive behavioral therapy as I like the very involved, practical approach to looking at out problems and concerns and changing the patterns of thinking that keep us from moving past these things to where we want to be. Once we learn our goals, cognitive behavioral therapy approaches help us to reach them in practical terms.
