Dr. Gary Schmidt is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon specializing in post-traumatic reconstruction of the foot and ankle, foot and ankle deformity in adults and athletic injuries. He also treats patients with common foot problems, including bunions and heel pain. Dr. Schmidt has more than three decades of clinical experience and has been active in teaching and research with publication in various medical journals. Dr. Schmidt also gained valuable sports medicine experience while working with the Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Expos as well as serving as a team physician for the McGill hockey team. My practice consists of 95% Orthopaedic Trauma. My primary clinical focus centers on the Orthopaedic care of the multiply injured patient, unstable pelvic fractures, acetabular fractures, nonunions, infection and periarticular fracture management.

I believe the most important thing is to take compassionate, appropriate care of my patients. I would rather have people understand that I would like to help people rather than that I trained well. Medicine is fun, because you can have relationships with people. It was great to serve as a military field surgeon before entering my residency at Fitzsimmons hospital. One can still feel a little altruism about serving our country.
