Timothy Rearick, MD is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders and sports related injuries. Born and raised in Ventura County, he attended college at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelors degree in biology. While in attendance, Dr. Rearick participated in the UCLA Sports Medicine Internship Program working as an integral part of the athletic training staff for the mens basketball team. Through this experience, he became passionate about treating musculoskeletal injuries which started his pursuit of a career in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Rearick attended medical school in Florida at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine where he graduated at the top of his class and was selected for the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. He then went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Southern California and Los Angeles County Medical Center. Dr. Rearick concluded his training with an additional fellowship year specializing in foot and ankle surgery with nationally recognized mentors at the renowned Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. Throughout his training, Dr. Rearick has collaborated on numerous research projects and has published peer reviewed research in Foot and Ankle International. He has presented foot and ankle topics at the national level and his research has earned award winning recognition within his residency department. He is an Active Member Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. Dr. Rearick returned home to Ventura County in 2016 to join the doctors of Ventura Orthopedics. His clinical interests include trauma, foot and ankle injuries in the athlete, foot and ankle arthritis, osteochondral lesions of the talus, flatfoot deformity, bunion deformity and Achilles and peroneal tendon disorders. Dr. Rearick offers both conservative and contemporary surgical options, including minimally invasive and arthroscopic procedures, as well as total ankle replacement surgery. He is committed to maximizing non-operative management and only proceeding with surgery when absolutely necessary, with personalized care for each patient in mind. Dr. Rearick and his wife live in Ventura County with their three young children and two dogs. The practice of orthopaedic surgery is constantly evolving due to changes in technology, economic and regulatory factors. My approach to patient care involves keeping up with the latest advances and at the same time not ignoring the art of caring. A majority of my practice consists of treatment of arthritis. This includes joint replacement of the hips, knees and shoulders. I believe in a thorough discussion about the diagnosis and treatment options with the patient/family. This helps in making good decisions and helps recovery after surgery. Newer techniques and implants such as minimally invasive surgery, gender knee, hip resurfacing and computer navigation are used when indicated. Custom knee implants including partial and total knee replacements are now available and can be used for the appropriate patients. In 2012, there will be continued emphasis on improving the entire joint replacement experience, starting with the preoperative visit to the hospital admission to the postoperative rehabilitation. Lessons learned from about 300 hip and knee replacements in 2011 will be incorporated in the planning and execution of these procedures. Minimally invasive techniques for both hip and knee replacement have been refined and advanced. As far as possible, the muscle sparing MIS approach is used for knee replacement and anterior MIS approach is used for hip replacement. Also, bone preserving techniques such as hip resurfacing and partial knee replacement are gaining in favor. Shoulder replacements are also advancing in techniques and materials. In short, there have been significant advances in joint replacement that allow faster recovery and improve long term outcomes. Complex hip and knee operations including revision or redo operations are also increasing in number. These are all managed effectively due to good support from hospital staff, physical therapists, implant manufacturers and rehabilitation centers.
