Dr Haider earned his medical degree from Loyola University, Stitch School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in orthopedics as well as fellowship training in spine surgery at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado. Dr Haider is the founder of the Thomas Haider program at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine (UCR). This program is designed to enable students with disadvantaged backgrounds to have an opportunity to become a physician and serve in their own communities. Dr Haider has also established scholarships at UCR for disadvantaged students. Dr Haider has developed numerous innovative spinal implants and synthetic bone substitutes that are currently used worldwide. Dr Haider and his wife Salma are co-founders of the Children's Spine Foundation, a Charity focused on securing early intervention and treatment of spinal disorders for children without financial means. Dr. Haider receive the Chancellors Medal of Honor in 1997 and the National AMA Pride in the Profession Award in 2001. He continues to receive multiple commendations and awards both locally and nationally for his surgical innovation, community service and his philanthropy.
