He attended school in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at LSU Health Science Center in Shreveport (LSUHSC). He completed Medical School and his residency program in Internal Medicine at LSUHSC as well. There he earned the Dr. James H. Campbell Memorial Award as the most outstanding intern. He also completed a fellowship in cardiology at the same institution and was named Chief Fellow while there. Dr. Stafford has been practicing Cardiology in Shreveport since 1999.
