Dr. Steven Baxter, DDS

I left Baxter Dental years ago as they went out of Network with Cigna Dental Insurance which works with nearly everyone in Wichita. His staff told me Careington would get me back in Network, not to worry. I have demanded a copy of their agreement with Cigna thru Careington which is a third party that negotiates with Dental Insurance providers. I have never paid anything for many decades out of pocket for ordinary cleanings which typically are covered every 6 months. Cigna Ins. absolutely denies any coverage agreement thru Careington and Baxter. Cigna paid around $50, Baxter wants another $109. In this case Cigna dropped the amount payable and Baxter raised his fee. I suspect a lot of patients left, why would anyone pay hundreds more because Baxter is out of network? This practice has a Fiduciary duty to tell me they have no ability to offer in network benefits, not an invalid promise for in network benefit. Dr. Baxter is amazing. His staff is also amazing. They take care of you from start to finish. Dr. Baxter is gentle, takes his time, and educates you over ever step of every procedure. He has a patient first mentality that I love and appreciate.

When my crown fell off, this dentist scheduled a tooth extraction in his office because it was my choice to have the tooth extracted, however, when I arrived, he proceeded high pressure tactics to talk me into a crown “rebuild”. When I insisted that I wanted the tooth extracted, he informed me that he was unwilling to extract the tooth and would have to refer me out which he did and he referred me to his oral surgeon associates who have very poor reviews online. He then sent me a bill for evaluation of the tooth. Bottom line this dentist is after your insurance benefits and your pocketbook. Keep looking.
