Disappointing Experience – Lacked Clarity and Care
I saw Dr. Shimma Abdulla at Rittenhouse Dentists in Bala Cynwyd expecting a routine cleaning covered by insurance. Instead, I was told I had periodontal disease, charged a $55 copay, and received no cleaning—only a treatment plan with multiple expensive visits.Neither the front office nor the hygienist could clearly explain the diagnosis or charges. It took involving Dr. Abdulla to get partial clarity, along with comments about how practices are moving away from accepting insurance, which only added to the frustration.I got a second opinion from another dentist who disagreed with the diagnosis, said a standard cleaning was appropriate, and explained things far more clearly. Patients deserve transparency and care, not confusion and unexpected charges. I won’t be returning and cannot recommend this practice based on my experience.

Poor Dentistry & Lack of Ethics
I had a crown put in Jan of this year. Dr Balin wasn’t avail but Dr Abdullah (who owns the practice) was at the center city office that day and put in the crown herself. The crown came out less than 6 months later. When I went in to have the crown replaced, I was told it would cost me an additional $1,200 (then lowered to “special disct” of $750). I was shocked to be charged again but Dr Balin said it was out of her hands that the decision was 100% from Dr Abdullah. After repeated efforts to speak to Dr Abdullah, never received the courtesy of a call back.Dr Abdullah is not only a poor dentist, but equally lacking in the area of ethics. I consulted several other dentists about their normal procedure if by chance a crown fell out before 6 months and w/o question ea would replace it without charge. Dr Abdullah took no accountability for her poor dentistry, did not stand by her work and greedily insisted on charging me a 2nd time for work that was incorrectly performed the 1st time.

This practice charged me 190 Dollars for my second session of deep cleaning.- The estimate provided was $45. The hygenist who performed the procedure never informed me that I have to pay that much more money out of pocket. I paid the $ 190 after complaining with your reception desk. On my way home their receptionist called me and told me she feels bad for me and will talk to the Dentist and organize a credit back. It's been over a month - Guess what - nothing happened. I even called and check after a week to inquire and I was told I will get a call back. AND NOTHING HAPPENED.

After years of being so uncomfortable going to the dentist I have finally found a practice that understands my fears. Even having my teeth cleaned provoked anxiety and now Elise has made it an easy procedure to sit through through. Thanks to the entire staff.
