Dr. Ryan Matherne, DDS

Terrible. They are money grubbers. Avoid like the plague.

A year ago Dr. Matherne performed a root canal on my tooth. He charged me a prohibitive amount for an endodontist evaluation which was not covered by my insurance. As a senior on a very small fixed income that was disastrous--especially at Christmas. But since the pain was excruciating I had little choice. I've been back to Louisiana Dental several times since, complaining of the pain in that tooth. I was assured that it would heal in time. It HAS NOT! My insurance company no longer insures Dr. Matherne--I can understand why! Hammond, LA

I saw Dr. Matherne for a consultation today.My dentist referred me to 3 other endodontists (not him), but I wasn’t able to get an appointment with them quickly enough. He referred me specifically for a 3D X-ray for what could possibly be a broken tooth underneath my crown. Dr. Matherne was EXTREMELY rude and arrogant from the start. When I asked him not to tap my tooth with the blunt instrument used to identify which tooth the problem was with, as my dentist had already done that and it was extremely painful, he went off on me. He berated me asking if I knew more than he and stating that if I wouldn’t let him do his exam, then I could just leave. I have NEVER had any healthcare professional speak to me this way. I asked him about the 3D X-Ray and he stated that he didn’t do those (although most other dentists in his practice do) and that if that’s what I wanted, I could go somewhere else. He proceeded to berate my dentist for suggesting I needed one. I left! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

I saw Ryan Matherne at the LA Dental Center in Hammond, LA. From the start, he was RUDE, CONDESCENDING, ARROGANT, and INCREDIBLY UNPROFESSIONAL–not only to me (a patient!), but also to the staff. I have NEVER encountered something like this in my life. It was unbelievable. He was loudly berating the staff members any chance he got, degrading them, implying they were stupid/incompetent (they were not). He kept reiterating how he was so experienced/the best (although nothing prompted him to share that). He unnecessarily explained the simplest things to me repeatedly, in a manner someone would talk to a child. I asked his assistant-who was clearly trying to hide her emotion and continue on with her job duties-how she tolerates him. I told her I would NOT be allowing him to do any work on me and that, although my family and I have been going there for years, we would NOT be returning. So, unless you enjoy being verbally abused and treated like an idiot, I suggest you avoid Ryan Matherne.

Dr. Ryan Matherne is the worst dentist I have ever came into contact with. I saw him at Louisiana Dental Center in Hammond on 10/14/19. After waiting an hour past my scheduled appointment, he was very, very rude. He stated I needed to schedule another appointment to get the proper treatment completed, no problem. When I asked him if I schedule another appointment, will I be seen at my appointed time. He lost his temper. I have never encountered a Dr. with his attitude. I have been going to Louisiana Dental for years and have always had excellent service until I met Dr. Ryan Matherne. FIND YOU ANOTHER ENDODONTIST if you ever have a tooth that needs a root canal.

Dr Matherne helped me make an educated decision on serious dental complications. Due to my age and health, he helped me make the correct decision and developed an outstanding treatment plan. All procedures were pain free and produced great results.

I got a root canal at the age of 11 (done by Matherne) due to a bad abscess surrounding my tooth;I am now 16. My crown popped off yesterday to reveal a rotten tooth due to the fact that Dr. Matherne didn't do his job correctly. Not all of the decay/infection was taken out before he did the build up. So now, I have to get the tooth pulled and get an implant AT THE AGE OF 16. Can't say this was on my pre 21 bucketlist. If only people would take their time and do their job correctly
