Dr.Kougentrakis is very adept, gracious, and cosiderate. She is one of my preferred mdedical caretakers. (Being older, I have many.) My insurance doesn'rt cover her services. I go to her anyway.

My dentist referred me to Dr. Kougentakis for sore red throbbing gums. She began treating me (I had three or four appointments) but she did not recognize the symptoms in my gums as a sign of AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). As a result I was subsequently admitted to the hospital for treatment with a much more advanced stage of the disease (cancer) which could have been caught earlier. (The AML was diagnosed by my PCP when I began running a fever and he ordered a blood test). The sore and red gums should have alerted Dr. Kougentakis to the possible diagnosis of AML. From the American Cancer Society website: "Certain types of AML may spread to the gums, causing swelling, pain, and bleeding."
